Point 2:. The Schumacher group had the right to pace the race and use team tactics. Make no mistake here, this is exactly what they did. At this level, you don't send a guy like Bumbalough to the front of that field, at altitude no less, and have him run a 60 second first quarter and come through the mile in 4:10. Schumacher is no dummy and neither is Bumbalough. These aren't the minor leagues. They knew exactly what they were doing. As I said before, just own it. They made a race plan and it backfired.
Thank you for the common sense. All those saying that it was Bumbi's own solo tactic, for his own benefit, to take it out hard are high on something, or dishonest. If the tactic, of pushing it hard early, was to benefit Bumbi also, THEN....Hill and Lomong would have shared the duty. They did not. Therefore, clearly, Bumbi was pacing the others and sacrificing his own finish for them, but getting a good workout himself. C'mon, how could anyone not see this?
But as you said, nothing really wrong with this. But combine this action with Hill and LL cutting off/bumping Galen a bit, and Salazar saw (though his biased eyes) some big gang attack on Rupp. He completely overreacted, obviously.
