So we have a big meet on March 8. I'm loading my 4x8 up in hopes of lowering our time so that we can qualify for Penn Relays. One of my legs is having his wisdom teeth removed today. How long will he be out? (I'm expecting to have him back Tuesday or Wednesday). Will he be able to go for the 8th? What type of training should he do when he comes back? Everyone else is doing some faster workouts but should I play it safe and just keep his fitness up? Any constructive comments are welcome.
I had a teammate in HS that had his wisdom teeth removed (it was more than 1 but I don't know if it was all 4) and ran a 3200 race that afternoon. That is at least the legend I recall in my own mind, but it could have been the next day. I vividly remember him taking bloody gauze out of his mouth as I was stepping on the track for the 4x4. It was a tri-meet and he won the race, but I don't recall it being one of his best times (10:10ish maybe? - he was a low 16 5k guy in xc).
It's obviously too late now, but unless it was something that was causing him pain, he should have waited until after the season. I did that and I think I took 3 days off and then started back with a couple of easy days.
It depends on if he has to go under or if he is awake. That impacts a lot of people differently. If he goes under, I would take it easier. If they just cut/pull them out with some novocaine, then you might be able to resume his workouts earlier.
