He'll be a cooked goose by the time he's a college frosh. Over and done with.
LV was 17 in the 8th grade.
Do you have a link or a name? That's quite a performance.
Even if true, it's all meaningless. How old, how developed and how trained? I've watched 13yos run 52 and 2.00, but they were physically developed at 11.
His records will be destroyed anyway, lol
Heard of several young girls running great times in the 90's, never heard from them again. Heard of another boy in 8th grade running 4:30 in early 200, never heard from him after that.
We will see with this kid.

What happened to Jason balkman?
milesplit shows the #1 ranked 8th grade mile/1600 as 4:49 and google/twitter searches have brought up nothing.
i'm calling troll until we get a link, name, or video.

I think the 8th grader from the early 2000s you're thinking of is Kevin Havel from Illinois. In case you didn't follow his career, he did very well in high school, winning a state two mile title, breaking 9 minutes, and finishing 5th, 4th, 2nd, and 3rd at the illinois state xc meet. As a junior, he gave Evan Jaeger a hell of a race, and as a senior he challenged Chris Derrick for the lead early in the race, and that likely cost him a 2nd runner up finish.
I know that his career at Stanford wasn't as stellar as his high school career, but at the very least he made a sub 29 minute 10k runner out of himself.
Anyway, if this is the runner you are thinking of...and I think it is...he definitely did some impressive things after 8th grade.
Carl is that you?
this thread is irrelevant until OP or somebody can prove that an 8th grader recently ran 4:17

That boy you heard about in early 2000s is probably Justin Brinkley. He became the US Junior Champion in the 1500m last year with a 3:46.
Then again, Justin Brinkley ran 4:38 in 8th grade and it was actually 2007, so I might be wrong... my bad
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
