So I'll preface this by saying I had a shitty Cross Country due to peaking in late September instead of late November. I trained really hard from June-September and I burned out hard. I was running my easy/social run days at threshold/ tempo pace to keep up with the faster people. 40-60 mile weeks, social pace around 6:45-50. I consciously rationalized this because I wanted to get better. So I decided that my winter training block would be very chill and I wouldn't burn myself out. Since I don't have indoor season, my first race is March 8th. After my 2 week break which ended November 25th, I haven't broken 20 miles for a week. My social comfortable pace is down around 7:30. The plan is to build up to 40 mile weeks by the end of January and hold that through track season. I am not in shape at the moment, and I'm wondering what you all think. Am I going too easy and leaving it too late? Subconsciously being lazy? Or do you think this is an okay (safe) schedule.
