Bernie didn't run a mile in "hot-97"?
To sum up: Alan Webb ran the 2nd fastest mile of the 21st century so far.
Also: Webb is back, baby!
According to the NY Times, the 20th century started on January 1st, 1901 and finished on December 31st, 2000. Alan Webb wins.
There isn't, actually, a year 0. VAcoach is right. Should there be? Probably. Is there? No. Does elementary modular arithmetic tell you anything about how we humans have decided to count years? No. Would the world be a less irritating place if math-oriented people didn't think a small knowledge of their subject conferred a whole lot of knowledge about every other facet of human existence? Definitely.
I will also remind you that the whole point of a cyclic group defined from Z by equivalence classes is that it doesn't matter where you start counting. {1,2,3,4,5} is as acceptable a set of representatives as {0,1,2,3,4} for Z/5Z. Jesus, people.
Sincerely,
A number theorist

Alan Webb doesn't win. Look back at the list, numbnuts.

I've never really understood this argument.
When you are born, you aren't born at age 1, you are 0 years old, and it is year 0 for a full year. Then it is year 1 for the next year.
Not every country starts age at 0. Some do start at 1. Like age, where you decide to end the century is a matter of taste and opinion. Neither choice is inherently incorrect.

You don't understand. Webb and Cram are the only WHITE names on that list.
our calendar began from the year 1. this isn't even relevant to the question, since el g ran faster in 2001. webb was the man in 2007 and asked for splits to beat the AR. He could have run quite a bit faster. And had he been going for the AR at 1500m instead, he would have broken 3:29 to beat Lagat's mark. He was an animal that last 100m against Baala in Paris for the 3:30. By late July he had much more in the tank.

No, they haven't! It was in Back to the Future, baby! Witness the birth of Christ! December 25 0000!

How would you write the year 0 in roman numerals?
Those degenerate hedonists were too inbred to invent 0, so they started their calendar at I.

Count to thirteen.
Did any one of you start with the number zero...no. The number one is the first in the series, same as with years, there is no such thing as year zero, therefore 2001 was the first year of the 21st century.
Let the mockery begin.
The guy that pointed out at least one, up to three performances above already made this point in a more subtle way.
Yeah, it was already covered by the 1/3 statement; clearly the poster knows Letsrun well enough to expect a flat-footed nerd attack.

I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
