Yeah, my speed is quite weak. Ill try including them sprints. How long should they be?

Almost done with my base phase. Back to my Loyola Base of 8-10-12-8-10-12-rest for 3 weeks then a cut back week of 6-8-10-6-8-12-rest done twice. This is my last 60 mile week. Next week is my 50 mile cut back week. Then I start workouts. Training is going good too. My best training run so far has been a 12 miler I did at 646 pace. Most of my runs though are 7-710 pace with the occasional run a few seconds faster or slower than that range.
nice work people...
ehh, i missed most the track season, came back and ran one 1600 in 5:17.. not terrible for 2 months off running.
anyways, i'm just starting to run again. i'm aiming for 15-20 miles this week...
2.5 miles at 6:40 pace today. felt out of shape.
my last 2 weeks have looked something like
1mile in 6:41 - felt bad
1 mile in 5:45
1 mile in 5:34
1.5 miles @ 6:15 pace + 1 mile easy + 60 mins of ultimate frisbee
2 miles @ 6:44 pace
2.5 miles @ 6:58 pace
and then today's run...
my goal is to run sub 17 at my HS alumni race.
today i did 3.24 miles @ 6:57 pace. Felt pretty good.
well Saturday I ran a 17:48 5k, got 3rd place overall. It was super windy 2nd half and was able to put 21 seconds on my friend in the last mile, he ran 18:09. I did one of those long Mo Farah style kicks with 1km to go.
Considering the wind and heat it was probably worth sub 1730. Not bad for an opener with no workouts, just easy runs and long runs. Makes me optimistic going forward. I've never been this fit before off just base work.
NotAustin, do you enjoy running more when you aren't running as high of mileage?

Oh absolutely! And I'm also much more fit! I understand its partly mental, but its also the Lagat mindset of training. Not going to go into details unless you ask, but it works for me. Lagat and I seem to have some similarities, which is why the once a day 6 days a week 50-60 mpw is optimal for me.
Nice to hear from you NotAustin! I'm really hoping that you will break your PB this season.
I've done three 5000m races. First DNF. Second 15:40->PB by 3 seconds. Third 15:26->PB by 14 seconds. Before this season I was hoping to break 15, but that has never been in reach. I now know that I really have to run higher mileage to do that.
Now i'm preparing for one or two 1500m races. I want to break my PB with a little bit more than 4 seconds. Preparation is going well.

Thanks man. And a PB is always good! that is so fast! You improved, that doesn't mean you need to change anything. If it works, just do it again and another year of training you should improve. Whats your 1500m PB?
I did not improve the way I wanted to improve. I had a PB of 15:43 and wanted to run 14:59 this season. I knew the chance was very small, but I really thought that I would run at least under 15:15. I "only" managed 15:26. So, I definitely should change something.
I am not training hard. I can do a lot more. I can run more miles (also in workouts). Run some of my easy miles faster. Do a few months consistent weight training. Work on my core stability and breathing (train breath muscles). I can run more on hills. I can eat a little healthier. I can sleep a little more etc.
1500m PB is 4:01 half, want to run 3:57 low.

That's good. It's good to know you have so many things to improve. That's what Galen would mention frequently a few years ago. I remember on the runsmartproject or something, you can get coached by Andy Bumbalough, a pro Nike runner living in Portland. I might check that out. If I were you I'd get a very good established coach and share your training history and ask what to do.
I'd do that after the season though so as not to distract you mentally from the rest of your season. After the season take 2 weeks completely off to rest up and recovery mentally/physically from the season while seeking coaching advice and what not.
NotAustin18, are you posting under different name? Still running/training?
