I like the temperature comparisons. Here's mine
8 PM mountain. December 1st 2013
Alamosa: 0 F
Fort McMurray, Northern Alberta: 18 F
Grand Prairie, Alberta: -1 F
Bonners Ferry, Northern Idaho: 37 F
Eureka Montana: 35 F
Whitehorse Canada: -9 F
Only places I can find significantly colder are fairbanks at -22 F, Yakutsk Siberia at -26 F, amd Yellowknife, Northwest Territories Canada at -13 F.
Not even pitch dark Kiruna Sweden, the northernmost city in Sweden comes close.
So basically at this given moment Alamosa is probably one of the top 20 coldest cities in the WORLD if you lump all the tiny Siberian villages together. Thats crazy. I don't have data but it might be the coldest place in the world at its latitude of 38 degrees north. All the places I found that are colder are approaching the arctic circle.
Nobody in Alamosa is running at 3 AM when it's -20F but it's definitely harsh even during the day im sure.
