Considering Oregon is next door to New England, it would be fair to group them in as well.

Seems like everyone has missed Bill Rodgers, Shorter was from Middletown, NY but went to school in CT.
I think the thread is trying to say that in spite of the "weather" in the Northeast (and Upper Midwest) those areas seems to produce the top distance runners.
add: Abby D now
You can not compare the North African area runners to US runners since the environment where each is brought up tends to highly influence what happens to them. When is the last time, or first time, we have heard of a first grader in the US running to school every day? Not likely, they get driven.
You know what else is not part of New England? Hawaii.

You either don't know your geography very well or you are just flat out wrong.
New York is not New England.
Also, add Ben True in the mix of New Englanders tearing it up

already got him, along with rodgers and Shorter. Yes, Shorter was from Middletown,NY but went to Northfield Mt. Hermon in Mass., then Yale collegiately.
We can also add Bruce Bickford (ME) and yes forgot about Abby D. (MA), we can also add Kate O'Neil (MA), and the Downin's (Matt and Andy) and just for fun Eric Jenkins (NH).
And from back in the day, Randy Thomas and Bobby Hodge, both from Mass., and while I'm at it, John Flora (CT) and Dan Dillon (MA).

No, Oregon is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nike. Nike is only an empire, not a state.

Dude you're forgetting about Alan Webb (VA), Matt Centrowitz (MD), and Chris Solinsky (WI). New England is totally where it's happening.
