Yes. Marlon Ramsey and Marlon wouldn't talk about his accomplishments but I like to share stories of such a great athlete. Two stories that a lot of people don't know or remember....BTW, I do stand corrected that in the 200m at Rice, he beat the 400m runner up at NC's(Chris Jones). Well anyway, that day or that sumnmer he wanted to work on his speed, so we ran alot of 100m. races. We go to Rice and they have FAT because of the World Championships and Leroy and Carl and Mike Marsh are there and Marlon runs in the same race and gets 6th...well, of course I knew he wasn't going to beat those guys but nonetheless, he was pissed. He wouldn't talk to me and later on her came around and wanted to run the 200m because he heard Leroy and Carl were going to run as well. Well, to make a long story short, Leroy and Carl did not run, but Chris Jones did. I convinced the officials to let Marlon run and they put him in lane 8. Gun goes off and Marlon rounds the curve in second to Chris and the if anybody knows Rice Stadium, Lane 8 is against the brick wall and you really can't see the runner in that lane. Next thing I know I hear the great Late Jay Fred Duckett say, and winner the great freshman from Rice University, Chris Jones. I knew better and Marlon won with a FAT of 20.77....it was his junior year going into his senior year and I know this sounds crazy but I often wonder in that race if Leroy or Carl would have run, what Marlon would have done. I'm not saying he would have beaten those guys, but I wouldn't have said it with 100% fact either. Marlon, ended up the following year...1994 running 45.36 FAT at the state track meet which was the state record just beaten in 2012....but what makes that time unbelievable is he did that after a 4 hour rain delay at 11pm at night in the rain....easily worth under a 45 if the conditions were right....1600m relay still hold the record at 3:08.55 for Texas......one final thing is I saw Marlon run 1:52 lead off leg in the 4x800m and go through the 400m split around 59 almost 60....it was hilarious to watch as he had no idea that the 800m(yes I know this was a relay) but 800m guys could actually sprint, so by the break he was dead last by 15 almost 20m and if I didn't have a 1:50 anchor leg, I would have had Marlon anchor and although we ran 7:42 that day, and finished second, I often wonder if I would have had Marlon anchor, he would have split under 1:50 and that I can make a fact....he was an incredibly gifted athlete that although he went onto run 44.74 I think he had the biggest heart of any track athlete I have seen. Others had more talent but not more drive than Marlon Ramsey.
