The AF and NV will initially record your maximum pushups and have you do more by the end of basic. The MC will tell you to do an insane amount that you think can never do then physically beat you until you perform that amount. On five occasions over 3 months of basic my son was hit in the gut, face, Judo tossed onto his back, tripped and slammed to the pavement breaking his tooth, until he did the stated amount. I think he said it was 300. The MC does that to train soldiers to perform to unexpected levels and not because they are Hitler types, not at all.
