negative slope / rate of change
Think of negative numbers in terms of things or amounts owed (i.e., debt).
Product of a public school, are you?
Let me explain in simple terms.
If I have 3 beans* and give you 2 then I have 1 bean left. (3-2=1)
If I have 0 beans I cannot give you any, so 0 minus anything is still 0.
*doesn't need to be beans, could be anything.
Homercles cares not for beans!
Really there are no such thing as separate objects, the universe is a seamless whole. So any math that uses numbers other than 1 is wrong.
You are CORRECT brother.
It's been fun, but there is just too much negative energy here and too many new a**holes who post bullshi* and lots of great people who used to post all the time who have left or gone underground. I'm out. Life is too short. I'll be in Kona. Hope to see some of you there. Paulo knows how to find me.
You must really hate imaginary numbers.
There are no numbers. Only atoms. Math is a lie.
en aye zee eye, zee eye oh en eye ess tee.
Let's do a thought experiment.
Assume you live on a number line. The local grocery store is at 0. Your house is at 10. How far is the grocery store? It is 10 minus 0 = 10. Now let's go for a run past the grocery store. Now we are at -3. How far is the grocery store? It is 0 minus -3 = 3.
Negative numbers exist in a math sense but they don't exist in the real world. How could the grocery store be less than 0 units away? What a silly concept.

It is an abstract concept- similar to zero. Zero isn't a real number either. There's no hope for you. You fail.
You ran 13 units today? How did you get home? Are you going to log that in your log?

Let's just say the relationship is fairly complex.

Actually, zero IS a real number.

Yes, going back to my beans example - if I don't have any beans then how many do I have? The correct answer is Zero. This proves that 0 is a real number

Negative numbers are a concept, brother.
Dude calls to order 10 things from Amazon, and Amazon shows that they have 10, but in reality they only have 8. They have committed 10 to this customer though, so they currently have -2...this is a number that describes a situation to them, and now they need to act...they can either tell the customer they only have 8, or deliver 8 and put 2 on back order, or find a way to quickly get 2 more so that the customer never knows there was a problem.
Negative numbers serve a purpose.
