AAPL was around 49 in 2019. Now it is 183. No reason to stop buying until it doesn't do anything for 5 years.
One more thing about AAPL and then I will shut up - 1985 you could have bought one share for about a nickel. Now 183.
My buys date back to about 1998 when it was $0.41. I'd have to dig into old statements to break it down more precisely than that because my brokerage doesn't look that far back historically via online records.
Not bad, but if you want to go that far back to like '85, I think we'd be talking a Flagpole portfolio.
Today is May 5, so basically a third of the way through 2024. I am about to check how I am doing against the Dow so far this year, and I have no idea yet...checking...
RESULTS ARE IN! (as of end of business May 3)
Flagpole: UP 5.04%
Dow: UP 2.62%
So, beating the Dow pretty well so far this year...but there's a lot of the year left to go.
“Well, I think the public is much more skeptical of, you know, pronouncements about the economy that they hear from politicians from Wall Street. They, you know, the much maligned act of doing your own research, people actually do that. One of the reasons there was such a violent reaction to the whole meme stock ape movement was because some of these people were actually realizing that it doesn't take a whole lot of work to be as good at this as anybody who makes a gazillion dollars at a hedge fund.”
“And people did build up some literacy about this, and I think that's been really helpful. And they've also become better informed about how some of the financial subsidies and scams work, monetary theory right like that was something that wasn't on anybody's radar until at least in this generation until 2008 so I think those are all good things you know but the basic problem of widening inequality widening unfairness I don't think there has been a ton of progress there.”
