I was told today that there is speculation in this forum that I'm posting as "A Duck". I did a search this evening and found a few threads with my name being attached to "A Duck". It looks like one thread was deleted. "A Duck" isn't me.

I think that this really might be Steve Bence. If you click on his name his email seems legit and I checked out the website it's registered to.
Hopefully people will learn a lesson from the undoings of the last couple of days.
Don't worry, I know you're not A Duck.
Here is a website I did a while ago. It needs updating ... http://www.chrisbence.com/pre/

Just read some of A Duck's posts and the replies. You will be horrified.
A Duck is nothing but a troll, playing a game on LRC while pretending to be a real person. Personally, I don't believe A Duck went to UofO. It's all an elaborate part of the trolling game A Duck is playing.
Sorry that your name has been associated with A Duck. People really need to be cautious about playing internet detective.
What if "A Duck" is actually a duck?
This would be the best trolling attempt ever. Here we are all getting worked up over discovering the identity of this anonymous letsrun poster, and it turns out to be a real-live duck that just has a proxy post for him.

Take your high school humor somewhere else.

If that was true, it would quack me up.

It certainly would be a feather under his/her cap.

Excellent. If you think of a former teammate that has ties to the bay area and tv production you may have your crazy pill taking man. He has done more to whip up the anti-Nike anti-Salazar rhetoric on this board than anyone.
I wish LRC would just ban his IP and handle.

Bumping this so more people will see.

Most people were cautious about it and there is a difference between someone clearly speculating and someone presenting something as fact. There was no "libel" as A Duck would say.
We are all fortunate that Mr.Bence was able to help clear this up, as malmo did yesterday.
A Duck is an insane person with no ties to Salazar and NOP.

Great site, Steve. And you have even beat Pre! Keep up the good work.
Bumping this for Steve Bence. I don't know of any ex-U of O nutters in the Bay Area, and most of the old school U of O runners were generally good people. I don't think 'A Duck' went to U of O, it probably went to a rival school and is doing its worst to make U of O and Nike look bad. Come to think of it, he's probably a crafty adidas shill who went to Stanford, Villanova, Colorado, Arkansas, or Oregon State! :) j/k
With the (somewhat) current bay area connection, could A Duck be a more contemporary alumni - maybe a UO grad who also was part of the original Farm Team in Palo Alto? Maybe under the guise of a Henry Rono-era runner, but the intimate knowledge of the bay area either means he/she resided in that area within the last 10+ years and was still competitive (or at least running more than the average jogger) or spends alot of time there...

I haven't followed this forum so I don't really know what is going on. Regarding background on me ... my father was in the Air Force. I started Kindergarten in Japan and graduated HS in Spain. When I went to the UO to run track in 1971 as a walk-on (I was listed as 9th on the depth chart for Oregon 800m as a freshman), it was the first time that I set foot in this state. My freshman year I improved to 2nd in the Pac-8, 6th at the NCAA championships, made the Junior USA team, and ran in the Olympic trials. Bowerman was the head coach and Prefontaine was my teammate and later friend. Oregon became home for me that year.
It is now 42 years later. I ran at Oregon for 4 years, 2 years as a teacxher/coach, and 36 years with Nike.
I care deeply about our sport. I'm proud in what I've been able to give back and I'd admire both Phil Knight and Alberto Salazar in what they've done. I am definitely not anti-Nike and anti-Salazar. I'm the opposite of that.
It bothers me when I see the personal attacks and divisive behavior. Our sport isn't that big. Constructive criticism and honest debate is great when the motive is to improve Running. But hiding behind alias names, allowing ambiguity on true identity, and taking random shots just tears our Running community apart.

Unfortunately, you've just described this entire message board in one sentence.
