you can't be serious. the russian was winding up with the elbows and uncorking a number of them at wilson, from a distance and for no reason. she should have been dq'd. that was ridiculous.

Montano DQ
Feel free to start your own thread discussing and contrasting Olympian Christian Smith, who qualified for the U.S. track & field team in the 800 meters with a 2008 dramatic dive at the finish line and Alysia Johnson Montano's recent WC finish line dive. Neither are we discussing pushing, mugging or fashion.
This thread is discussing the wild elbows from Poistogova and whether or not she should be DQ'd for impeding Wilson's forward motion.

No, and it's strange you keep ignoring the actions of Montano.
They have nothing in common other than the athletes falling to the ground. Montano impeded the runners around her. Smith didn't.Besides the russian was just defending her space. After all you can't elbow someone ahead of you:)

This whole thread is an example of the pu**ification of America. No harm, no foul. There is jossling in track - only real weiners don't either get it or accept it. Stop whining (I doubt that Ajee is) about little things likr this video shows - its not like anyone fell (other than Montano and that was her fault anyway).
Markboen - you sound like you are 12 complaining that little johnny called you a name and you are crying about it. No wonder Americans can only place 2nd if this is the mindset. Go out and actually race, trade elbows if necessary and get the job done! Nick certainly wouldn't have complained about it - seems really that it's about hating Russians more than a real transgression on the track.

Defending her space? I don't think you saw the overhead video. The Russian came across two lanes to elbow Wilson aside and move in front of her.
I firmly believe that without the Russian Bear assaulting Wilson, she (Wilson) would have got the bronze ahead of Martinez. It was that close.

The term foul is not used in T&F:

I too could not find a rule or regulation concerning 'fouls.'
On the other hand, I did find this:
IAAF Competition Rule 163.4 states that any competing athlete who jostles or obstructs another athlete, so as to impede his progress, shall be liable to disqualification from that
event.[/quote]
I was talking about the term 'fouls' not being used in athletics and used the link without thinking people were too thick to understand why I was using it.
You both (somehow) misundertood me and are incorrect as this is their rule on 'fouls'
something tells me russians have an easier time committing cold-blooded murder.
Wilson and the Russian will both be in the 800 today in Stockholm.
Another nice race for Wilson in Stockholm. No Russian in sight in that race:) Wilson just needs to work a little on her kick. Manzano was drifting across lanes again at the end or else she might have won it.
Uncharacteristic for Leo. Perhaps that's why she ran a 3:42 today.

Oops! Montano, not Manzano. You knew what I meant :)

She beat poistogova this evening thankfully.
I'm not usually big on dq's, but Poistogova clearly fouled Wilson and the US should have filed a protest - at minimum.
Poistogova actually guessed wrong, though, in coming after Wilson. She should have drifted left and would have had a shot at passing Montano, instead she wasted her shot fighting to go right.
nah.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
