In high school he ran 13.86.
I know they go up which slows some athletes some, but he is 6'3 or taller, it should not make him a 14.5 guy.

Most top hurdlers aren't super tall. 6-3 is the top end of height you see in hurdlers.
Also there are plenty of examples of hurdlers who ran sub 14 in high school that then go run mid 14s when they go up to 42s. David klech is one such example. Some people just peak early, especially in skill events.
Also, 14.5 is not slow for a decathlete. It is in the mix for elite decathletes. Also, it is about what you might expect based on his 100 time and assuming solid hurdle form.
I disagree with your statement. Yes he ran 13.83 in high school, but actually he has improved his 60m hurdle time from high school... In high school he ran 7.98, and this year at the indoor USAs he ran 7.93! To my knowledge he's been coaching himself in every event, and probably hasn't put much emphasis on the hurdles because he was such a stud at them in high school. For example he still has his great start when you look at the 60h time but he probably hasn't put any emphasis on his hurdle endurance which is very important. Because once your core starts to give out in the ladder part it ultimately screws your race. He will have a coach this coming year and as he gets stronger I expect him to be running sub 14s easy again. He's a ridiculous athlete and once he actually has a coach it's going to be scary... Even Ashton said he's going to have to start getting serious if he's going to want to beat Gunnar in the coming years.
ummm... he scored 8300+pts in his first major international championship at the professional level.
He is averaging about 8200 in three meetings this year, one being Gotzis in the cooler conditions. You should learn a little more about the Deca before you call yourself a "Decanut".
I don't know about "so bad," but he if he needs more points or has more room for improvement in the jumps or throws, he might be spending more of his limited training time on those events.
