Never a Rupp fan when he was younger
I have no idea how people can rip on him now, he is really frigging good, 3:50, 7:30 indoors 2nd at Olympics and 4th here?
What the heck do folks want?

This guys is right. RCS has no response. RCS is a good troll but his outstanding performance this thread is a fluke.

But what the fanboys don't get (or admit) is that the Olympic silver was a fluke. The field there was SO weak and EVERYTHING went just right for Rupp. Which is great.
But seeing him as on the level of guys CONSISTENTLY at that level is delusional.
Honestly, would any of you bet money on Rupp medaling in Rio?
Would I bet money at even odds that Rupp will medal on the track in Rio? no.
But who gets better odds?
Farah? unlikely to still be running track in 2016.
Jeilan? maybe, but last year certainly raises doubts.
Gembremeskel? sure didn't bring it today.
Gebrihwet? who knows what he'll be focusing on 3 years from now.
Other East Africans? quite probably, but who's the specific one who gets the shortest odds for medaling on the track in Rio?
Anoher American? Derrick sure didn't impress today, this was probably the last time we'll see Ritz at a major track championship, and no other American is anywhere close to Rupp at 10000m.
etc., etc.
So, back to Rupp. Seems very likely to continue to focus on track through 2016, has been remarkably injury free to this point in his career, already a solid contender at 10000m against the best in the world and may still have at least a little room to improve. 10% chance of medaling in Rio? easily. 25%? why not. Better than that? really too soon to know but who are you putting out there as better than 25% to medal in the men's 10000m in Rio?
bottom line: Rupp is a first-rate distance runner, the current financial incentives have pulled the best East Africans to the marathon, and if that continues to be the case for the next few years, he'll have every chance of winning another medal at the 2015 WC or the 2016 O Games.

BS. Then why do the best athletes compete at world champs idiot. All of it matters. World Champs, Olympics, and World Records. What? Just because Ruppie didn't medal, it doesn't matter?
Go out into the public and tell someone that you just won a medal at the track and field world championships. They will probably say that's nice to your face and who gives a crap behind your back.
In contrast tell them you just won an Olympic medal. This will invoke women wanting you while men will wanting to be you!

LOL @ tards. I can ALSO say that I have done all THREE of them and get all the putang in the world. Why pick just one of them when you can have all three? You = Owned.
After today's OBLITERATION I think even the fanboys will come around to the fluke side.
Amazing runner =/= medal threat.
Time to move to the marathon. He'll have much better chances there.

Nope.

Please find an unsafe place to run.

His medal chances in any Olympic marathon will be very poor - that's where the main East African talent is. It is possible he could get himself a WC Marathon medal in, say, 2017 if a bunch of the top guys don't run.
Rupp's best medal opportunity remains the 10000m, and I expect that to remain his focus through Rio. After Rio we'll see him on the roads, and if all goes well it would be great for him go sub 60 / sub 2:06, but it's a long way from that level to truly competing with the best in the world. Guess it's possible he could turn out to be a 58:xx / 2:04:xx guy, but that would surprise me.
Interesting points, but look at Olympic marathon winners and medalists. It's hardly all 2:04 guys or even all sub-2:09 guys.
Savvy racing and exacting race-specific preparation have put guys like Meb, Baldini, Da Silva and Wainana on the podium, among many others who weren't ranked top 10 (or even top 50?) in the world.
Salazar is amazing with the sort of condition-specific prep and attention to detail that could give Ritz or Rupp the race of their lives in Rio, while the Kenyans and Ethiopians will be dropping like flies as they so often do in hot championship races.
This is Rupp's best medal shot in 2016.

It may be true that Rupp's best medal shot in 2016 is in the marathon.
However, it is completely absurd to call his silver a fluke. If anything, a 4th place this year confirms its legitimacy (not that any medal needs to be legitimized beyond the race itself).

There are no more track medals in Rupp's future. Time to hang up the spikes.
Hopefully the future will see some marathon paydays and maybe a win in a fixed field like Boston.
LOL. Yep, no future for Rupp in the 10.
Congrats, Galen, on a Diamond League victory and a new American record.

+1. LRC's favorite American distance guy now has the fastest 10000m PR of anyone currently contesting the event.

Not a DL win. The 10,000 was not a DL race (the 5 was though).
