Farah had lots of obligations because of the Olympics. Because of this he spent more time in Europe, less in Portland, and did longer, less intense work--hence the half marathon. But also since he'd be doing the London Marathon in 2014, it looked like a good idea to run not only the first half, but then the first half of the 2013 London Marathon. Farah was thus wasn't doing the intense work in February, for example, that Rupp was doing. Add to this Rupp having to qualify for Worlds against potentially tough competition, Farah feeling obliged to run more races in Europe, and they are on somewhat different cycles. Ritz is another case, because of the need to run many more long runs than anyone else in the group in preparation for Chicago, which also led him to be heavy-legged today.

Can you elaborate why is his schedule is so different? I know Farah didn't have the distraction of USA Nationals but the gap between him & the rest ofthe squad looks wider than ever. Farah's season seems to have been planned completely different to Rupp with him doing half marathons while Rupp was doing a stellar indoor season early on. Surely they shared the same season goal of the world champs so why such a divergence in training strategy?
