I don't have cable. The only news outlets I watch are the ones I get with my rabbit ears, CBS, NBC, PBS, and ABC. Antiabortion speakers are the epitome of anti-violence, yet they are often shouted down at colleges or worse, met with violence. Speakers who want to discuss the facts about the number of fake hate crimes that are reported are also not welcomed. Speakers who want to discuss the facts regarding children being raised in 2 parent households are not welcomed. None of these speakers have anything to do with exclusion or racism or violence. They merely want to present facts. Colleges should want to hear about facts so that students can then form an educated opinion regarding a particular topic. My experience is that Republicans accept people for who they are but Democrats are not willing to do the same.
You have a perception that is clearly biased toward Republicans/conservatives always being right, moral and accepting of others. Some are, some are not. Some conservatives went out of their way to eat at Chik-fil-a when they made anti LGBT statements and donated to anti LGBT causes. This was a large movement and clearly not a sign of acceptance. Some liberals chose not to eat there again. Not all, but some.
The majority of college speakers are academic or industry leaders such as authors or scientists or executives. There are probably examples similar to what you describe above, but those would be a very, very small percentage of speakers at colleges.
SFH falls under the Author category. People are free to protest her appearance.
There are many examples of anti-abortion activists doing violent things. "Discussing" fake hate crimes is usually denial of their existence. There are FBI and police statistics on hate crimes, but the "discussion" probably does not include those.
Conservatives have traditional views and that is fine. But everyone does not have a financially stable 2 parent household. Single parents or dual working parents or poor people are not evil and all of their children do not turn out evil. I am a Liberal / Democrat and I can accept them and LGBT people and religious people and atheists. I can accept that your views are different from mine and not resort to violence. I am not likely to change your opinion, but hopefully this discussion has made us both think about another point of view.
One person's rights end where another person's begin. Live and let live. Everyone would do well to remember that.
