Gearing up for another college XC season and I have noticed that between working 40+ hours a week and doubling 5 days a week I haven't been able to keep up my beer consumption to adequate levels. I know the uptight hobby joggers on this board will be horrified that I am "wasting my talent and training" by drinking a few beers most nights but I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on when the best time to drink is given the pros and cons of each time of day. Here's my pro/con list, let me know what you high-mileage working professionals do and think.
7:00AM after 1st run- This is alcoholic territory in my mind so not a good time for beer. Also beer and cereal (beereal) is not as good as you might expect.
5:30 After work and before 2nd run- My favorite time to pound a few back, howevever this usually means I have to leave my 2nd run till a little later. Could I just run right after drinking regularly with no ill-effect?
8:00 After 2nd run- Another good time for beer. The only thing I worry about here is that my coach told me, and I confirmed this by reading the study, that even 2 beers before bed can cut growth hormone production in half. I'm a big growth hormone fan so I don't want to loose to much of it, and I go to bed usually at 8:30 so I can get up at 4:45 to run before work. any anecdotal experience with regular beer drinking before bed and high-mileage?
As always thanks for keeping it classy Letsrunners.
