Anyone live/run around here? Is it a decent place for a runner to live?
Thanks!

Sawtelle is not really an ideal running area I would say. I recommend running along San Vicente, seeking out park (Griffith Park), and running in nearby Venice. I live in Santa Monica - it's a great place to train on the westside generally.

I come to Santa Monica now and then for work, and I'm looking for those great places to train. I usually stay around Pico and 31st. Do you have some suggestions for heading out from there?
Unfortunately you are in a heavy traffic area.
Go down Pico or Ocean Park to the beach -run along the beach N-Santa Monica-Palisades etc -S to Venice.
Or drive to Griffith Park...
I would recommend the same actually. Making the trip out to the side of Santa Monica where you can run along the bluffs on Ocean Ave and up San Vicente. It's pretty great.
Also you could go down Ocean Park Blvd and run all the way to the beach pathway.

The latter I've done -- run down Pico, turn left at the ocean, come back up Ocean Park.
I'll try the Ocean Ave - San Vicente loop next time I'm there. Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I'm usually without a car; the parks north of Santa Monica look tempting.
I used to run miles and miles around mar vista park in mar vista near venice.
The mile loop was palms, sawtelle, rose, butler, woodbine, mclaughlin, round and round and round. It was only 1/2 mile from where I lived at the time, and I ran there most mornings.
I used to live on the edge of Santa Monica, near Wilshire Blvd. San Vincente has a nice grass median, but you have to live with deal with some cars making turns.
If you like trails you can head park along Temescal Canyon Rd, just South of Sunset Blvd. Go north to the trails. Do some trail research before you go. There are some nice loops you can take.
The views from Viewpoint Trail and Temescal Ridge Trail are fantastic (ocean included). Adding Temescal Canyon Trail would make a loop.
And if you're really wanting an amazing place to run and get away I highly recommend Malibu Creek State Park.
