If the lack of "race environment" might be a negative for the race, why not, instead of men pacing, get Kara to pace? The heat was probably too much for her. She can probably run better in cooler condition and Al could compensate her.
I'm not a big fan of the whole set-up race, and I agree with the concept of a non-race environment causing a runner to bail out a bit, but I don't think that will happen here. The NW being so distance crazy, I'd think quite a few people would come to watch if Nike advertises it and allows free entry. Crank up some tunes and it should get them motivated enough. At a minimun you know Pappas will be there and be as annoying as ever.
