The Hsaay interview on Flotrack was interesting where she talks of a special 10k in which they would be surrounded by guys running at 31:44 pace (her words). Are mixed races are allowed by IAAF as qualifiers? We know of course Salazar will think so .......and he seems to like to manipulate everything. What's the deal?

From the IAAF "Entry Standards":
Performances achieved in mixed events between male and female participants
(see Rule 147) will only be accepted under the following circumstances:
o For all field events and races of 5000m and over held completely in the
stadium the results will be:
Automatically accepted if achieved at National Permit competitions
Accepted only with the Area Association's approval if achieved at
competitions under IAAF Rule 1.1 (i) and (j)
Never accepted if achieved at competitions conducted under IAAF
Rule 1.1 (a) to (h)
There's also a provision somewhere that five runners have to finish a race for it to count as a qualifying standard.
Ridiculous that times from mixed track races are valid, but not mixed road races.
Yeah, this may be legal to do, but it just defeats the spirit of the thing. Just seems patently unfair, that she gets a special race with a whole pack of pace setter to help her along. How many other standard chasers would be so lucky?
I mean, why not just put her on a bloody treadmill set to roll at sub 32:00 pace. Jeez. Hit the grand prix circuit, and find a race and run your own bloody time.
Why does Salazar try to help his athletes so much?

I think it has more to do with the lack of quality 10,000m races held. They are very few and far.

She has already qualified against the best female competition that the country had to offer in a race. In fact, without Simpson, who is expected to run the 1500m, she would have been national champion.
Easy if you are running shorter distances. 10k runners can realistically only take so many shots at it.

Would Pre had needed pacers if attempting a goal time? Of course not - he would have toed the starting line and just taken off. No pacers, no ice vests, no underwater treadmills, no PEDs, no calming talks, no hotel visits. Nothing. He would have just lined up and taken off. Alberto's runners are babies. Need to be tended to. Treated like prima donnas.

There are NOT very many fast 10k races on the European Circuit, and incidentally, it's not exactly easy to make multiple attempts at it.
Jordan Hasay has very recently gone pro. Why on Earth would Salazar ship her off to Europe, which will involve no appearance fees, a fairly hefty flight cost, jet lag, hotel costs, etc. when he could just set up a race in the US?
Also, there's nothing stopping other runners from doing the same. It's not like it takes all the resources of Nike to find a group of male 32:00 10k runners.

I think he means according to that IAAF document, you can't use a mixed road race to qualify for 10k, but you can for the marathon.
You can also use a mixed marathon for records, but IDK about a 10k.
No doubt--working out six to eight hours most days . . . babies. But setting aside this dopey point, a question: when did time requirements begin for Worlds and the Olympics?
