Doper beats doper.
Doper beats doper.
Rupp's problem is that he's fast enough to win in a kick in a 10k when everyone's tired.
But he's less likely to win in a kick in a 5k when everyone is less tired. I understand he pulled it off once against Legat, but I think that he won the lottery there.
In the 10k, Rupp can sit and kick. That shouldn't be his 5k strategy.
Why does the OP refer to Lagat as "daddy"?
Seems a little odd to me.

It's in reference to a quote from Lagat after an indoor race where he closed in something absurd and said that he just wanted to show his kids that Daddy can still kick.
.75 seconds it not an obliterating anyone by any means. Maybe in a 400.
winning in 51.5 in a 13:20 race, like last year, is nothing like this year's 14:54. rupp didn't have the same form: see prefontaine classic. but we saw how strong lagat was already indoors with a wicked kick to destroy a couple very strong runners at 3k in germany.

Why is everyone keep saying he won the race in 51.5 last year? He ran a 52.5. Still impressive but please stop with the bs/lies
No, he's a great American and great American runner. You must be thinking of someone else. Nice work Bernie!
Lagat is a dirty cheating Kenyan who would retire if he had any sense of fairness and honesty. He is disgusting.[/quote]
LOL'D. YOU MAD BRO
Rupp went early and faded into the headwind on the homestretch. Lagat saved a little. I think it was smart for a rupp to see if he could drop a guy like Lagat over the last 400 of a slow race. Lagat is just way more experienced.
The lesson seems to be that, for Rupp to win a 5000, the racing had to start at least at 6 or 8 laps out rather than 4.

Wow, an uber-Rupp-fanboy, and an incredibly obnoxious one at that.
Remarkable how much analysis and criticism can go into this 5k, but this is LR so maybe I shouldn't be surprised
Race was obviously super slow, had two clear favorites, and a couple more going for the last qualifying spot. Only 9 runners in total. Not to mention the heat.
Lagat is one of the best milers ever but getting old. Galen is a distance runner working on speed. Who would you have in a kickers race? Was cheering for Rupp but not surprised Lagat pulled it out. Looked like he worked for it but was by no means a spanking.
Even with the slow opening, the final mile was special. Ryan Hill the big surprise. Too bad for True, but will see how the standards chase goes. Loved the hardcore glare Galen gave Mead. Not a disappointing race by any means. We willl send a solid team.
Losing a 400m sprint by 0.75 is a spanking.

Especially when it is to someone who is old enough to be your "daddy" !
C'mon Rupp, who's your Daddy?? BERRRRRR-NIE!
You have a screw loose, little fella.

+1
NOBODY ran a 3:55 last mile, get a clue on the math, please

Maybe you should try reading it again.
Since apparently some people have short memories, Rupp won the 5,000/10,000 double at the Trials, beating Lagat in the 5,000, running two meet records, then did what no white man was supposed to ever do again and won a silver medal at the Olympic 10,000.
That's more in one year than any American-born distance career for a long, long time.
Good thread, Freddy. I absolutely love to see Rupp get beat. Never leads. Never shares the work. Always a strained smile when called for.
