Hello everyone I have a situation regarding my 9 year old son that is running this season. He is a middle distance runner, and he is pretty good, his PR in the 400 is 1:08.62 & 800 is 2:42.10. Yesterday he ran @ the state meet and ran an 800 time of 2:53, which was very slow for him. I came to the conclusion that he was overtrained this season, so I shut him down for the rest of the season. I have a guy that trains him that thinks he's not mentally tough enough but I told him my son is only 9 so he is only gonna be so tough. I don't think I am going to use the trainer again next season because I can do what he does. I just need to know where I can find workouts for my son exercise routines are pretty easy to come by, so I know I can find those. I wanted to know also if I want him to eventually become a sprinter should I let him begin sprinting now or is it better for him to run middle distance and start sprinting in middle school? I was told that him running the middle distance is better for him and will make the transition to sprinting easier. Is there any truth to that?
