She just ran 15:55, but since Mary Cain just broke the HS 5000 record this will not get the appreciation it deserves. She's won the dream mile in 4:39, won national titles, broken 10 for 2 miles and 16 for 5k, yet you rarely hear anything about her because of Cain's dominance this season.
She's awesome. It's too bad she didn't go to Portland once it was announced that Cain was running there. Not only did Cain have the advantage of run in the open race but the weather in Portland had to have been better than Greensboro this time of year.

Not Baxter's fault they go gaga over her....Frazier's last 800 was a knockout. Finn must be in a state of shock, but to be fair to her, Greensboro is in Frazier's backyard. Wesley probably had gotten a better night's sleep than Erin. I still can't figure out why these two didn't want to be Ducks. Must be dummies.

Finn ran a PR and still lost by 23 seconds so I don't think a different strategy on her part would have made much difference.

Oh yes it would have. Going out screaming fast is a high school tactic that won't work in college and beyond, when athletes pace much more evenly, and ultimately run faster too. Kudos to Wesley for pacing a smarter race. As quoted from Race Results Weekly,

Sure Finn might have run faster if she had paced it more evenly. But it still wouldn't have changed the outcome which is the point I was trying to make.
She would have given herself a better shot of winning, and not feeling dejected for having led for 2 mi., only to get passed and beaten. So yes-- could have been a very different outcome. Only has herself to blame for racing like an amateur.
Perhaps. But if you had watched Frazier race over the last few years you would know that she has a tremendous kick. Finn has never shown that kind of closing speed hence my opinion that it would not have made any difference.

Maybe she would be able to kick if she didn't torch the first mile of a race. Kind of hard to have anything left for a kick when you do that.
I'd like to see her run her best, and torching the opening mile is never going to do that.
yeah Frazier has got to be one of the best all time HS girls, and because of Cain she doesn't get the attention she deserves. She just quietly keeps on pumping out races that most years would put her number one in the country in every event.
It's like if Hasay had been in HS when Cain was, Hasay wouldn't have gotten much attention except maybe as like a freshman when she was already so good cuz she'd already been running for a while (I think).
Frazier wins the 2 mile in 10:07.30 with a 65 second last lap. Finn DNS.
The general tone is that this girl has been done an injustice by not having been properly recognized for her precocious performance. She's a teenager, and I'd suggest she might benefit in the long run by not being fully recognized. When you criticize the race tactics of these girls, please bear in mind they are 17-18 years old. They will learn, grow and mature. I wish all of them much success in the years to come.

She needs a new first name. If I see that Wesley Frazier ran a 4:39 mile, I think "why is a mediocre boy making the news?"
Unfortunately her H.S. career ended up between Hasay and Cain.
That's debatable. Frazier just completed the 'triple crown' at NBON.
Following wins were done on consecutive days:
5K - 15:55.94
2M - 10:07.35
1M - 4:39.66
Hasay's all-time HS bests?
2M - 10:07.65
1M - 4:42.21
Frazier just beat both of those in the same meet, and won the 5K which may be (is?) the best ever by a HS girl in a HS only race.
Hasay was clearly more dominant at XC but in track I put Frazier ahead.
4:39 and 15:55 are good, but it doesn't make him someone that deserves lots of chatter. Keep on training, Wesley, you will likely become an above average runner on a men's D3 team!
