I;m a high school senior and I want to break 16 this year in XC my pr is 16:30. I just raced a 5k on the track and ran a 16:04 (don't run it in high school track but wanted a fun race after track season). I don't know what type of training I need to do to keep some of my speed but not overtrain with it and I want to gain more endurance.
I plan on getting to 70mpw by Aug and holding it for 4 weeks if possible. I've read the summer of malmo stuff but I can't seem to find paces and such. I'm thinking of cut down runs once a week but I'm not sure what should be the fastest I should cut down to and I'm also confused about regular run paces. Should I run 6:45 pace or closer to 7:30? Alot of things and people seem to contradict each other and I'm confused.
Please don't tell me to ask my coach. He's a basketball coach and asks me what I'm doing each day of practice and has the rest of the team do the same thing and most of the time doesn't even come out for practice because he's busy conditioning his BB team. Basically he is no help and I'm on my own for the summer. Not bashing the guy, just being honest, and I'm glad he volunteers so we are able to have a team.
