dude, even if he did have all his training methods secret, who cares. like seriously, thats part of competition, having your training secret and no one else except for your athletes to know so none of your competition can get an edge on you.

Anyone who has taken a home grown American kid to Olympic 10k silver is NOT bad for American distance running. I don't care how he did it. Good on him.
Even if he cheated? Not saying AlSal did, but testing the limits of this poster's comment.

I don't understand why people think Alberto is such a great coach. Yes, he had huge success with Galen. Mo did improve under him, though he was already a sub-13 runner and still improving when he went over. There are tons of other runners that are or have been under Alberto that could have arguably done better or just as well with any other coach. Ritz, Webb, the Gouchers, Amy Begley, Ciaran, and Dorian Ulrey, come to mind.
Really, he has one great triumph in Rupp and a minor one in Mo. Is Scott Rascko (sp?) a great coach because he coached an athlete to the AR in the mile?
I think that points out the difficulty of training athletes. Any coach is this sort of situation is going to have very few successes. Makes the success of Lydiard and a few others even more impressive.
I read that 1 in 45,000 marathon runners die during or immediately after a marathon, most commonly as a result of pre-existing conditions.

While he is able to develop is athletes, he takes them from an already elite standard.
He is mostly known for coaching Rupp in high school and developing him over many years.
Other than coaching his runners, he has also helped in the resurgence of American Distance running. Bring along Schumacher and his crew and now we have two very successful training groups. I am sure it motivates athletes within the groups even more to be training alongside the best to compete and challenge the best in the world.
Did the Bekele's not want to join Salazar's group a year ago or so?

Getting a good night's sleep and walking the dog are also performance enhancing I guess.
I think he's overrated. The technology is gimmickery his using it makes him look stupid and gullible. "But you can't argue with results." Rupp's and Farah's success is attributable to their own talent, not Saladbar's methods.

Coach Ma used good coaching too. He and Salazar both had doctors be an integral part of their good coaching, and both used stuff that had not yet been band. I consider both of them cheats.
And of course he's bad for American distance running. One of Americas most accomplished runners was caught cheating under his coaching. The rest of the world looks at our distance program the way we see the Moroccans, Russians, and our own cyclists, a nuisance we wish would just go away.

Don't forget Lambie, she is out of running thanks to him.
Let's see....since they have come to Salazar.
Farah: PRs at basically every distance.
Ritz: PR at the marathon (for those of you who say that Salazar can't coach the marathon)
Levins: runs a 6 second PR at 1500 meters
Treniere Moser: runs a huge 5K PR and gets the WC 'A' standard.
Rupp: Olympic silver and numerous American Records.
Where's the "bad" part again ?

Bad Part is:
Ciaran O'Lionard, Adam Goucher, Caitlan Chock, Begley, Ulrey.
The entire first generation of the Oregon Project from early 2000 - Dan Brown, Chad J, etc.
Decker Slaney getting busted for PEDs while Salazar was coaching her.
I know you suck on the Nike teet but wake up.
NIKE lol
they held on to lance until the last moment
and then claimed he lied to them
they want results and don't care about ped use
just wanna avoid bad pr for the share price
And the bad part is that every one of those people that you mentioned got set back by injury. Begley made the Olympic team at 10K under Salazar while healthy and Ulrey is still there and reportedly back to being healthy.
I'm not saying that he's the right coach for everyone, but he's done pretty well with who he's had.

What about runners he doesn't coach? How many are beset by injury?
7/10. Two pages of comments. Congratulations!

He also coaches some HS girl, but she was probably already a good runner beforehand.
