I heard Kentucky is not asking back a lot of their runners for next year who have eligibility left. Is this ethical?

It is very ethical. They are lucky they got a year to prove themselves but apparently did not take care of business.
I think it is funny when college kids get a scholarship or roster spot because they are good but then screw around and wonder why they lose it. Entitled people suck!
no.

Can incoming signees de-commit if there is a coaching change in spite of presumably signing an NLI? What a mess! Do schools have athletic aid available this late in recruiting season?
As stated clearly in the NLI; The signees signs with the school, not with the coach.
You might not be a football fan if ...
... you hear about a firing in the SEC and assume that there's yet another political scandal going on.
Who said they screwed around? Maybe some injuries or illness but maybe a few messed around.
I don't think it's ethical at all. Theses are STUDENT ATHLETES. A Scholarship is there to help take care of financials and let them continue their sport. What happens if these athletes have to transfer because their scholarship was yanked? The whole mission of the university itself is to provide an education to these students.
The mission is upheld. Scholarships are there because athletes are great so if they are no longer great then why should they get a scholarship? Scholarships are not for everyone. They are a privilege but some kids don't get that. Too bad! They are one year financial aid agreements. Very simple. The world does not owe you so quit the bitchin.
IF they are no longer great whose fault is that? Maybe it's the athlete maybe it's the coach. If it's the coach should his salary be revoked for the next year?
So if a kid had a stress fracture that took him out for 4-5 months should his scholarship be taken away because he is no longer great at THAT moment in time?
Chelsea Oswald had plenty of injuries at Kentucky... now look at her. She is tearing it up! She has been there 4 years and this was the first she was healthy. Sure would have sucked for UK to yank here $$$$.
I'm not saying some athletes don't abuse the system but the majority of college athletes work hard.
I know they are one year agreements but I've also worked as a compliance coordinator for many years. You do need a valid reason not to renew that agreement. These kids can appeal and trust me MOST if not all will WIN if they can show they didn't break any rules and were committed to the team.
That's great that you were a compliance officer but I also know that many kids have a change in priority after they get to college. They dont deserve a scholarship if academics and athletics lose to the social side. Your job on scholarship is to compete and to do so at a high level. Many take it seriously but many do not.
So how about Dan Waters? Is he up to date on his meds lately?
If you go to college on academic scholarship and you decide to mess around and your grades suck guess what happens? The schools TAKES AWAY your academic scholarship.
If you go to school on an athletic scholarship and you decide to mess around and your performance sucks, guess what happens? The Coach can choose not to renew or to reduce your scholarship.
Further more what is unethical about cutting kids from the team? I know when I was growing up just because you made the travel soccer club as an 11 year old it didn't mean you were going to make the team the next year as a 12 year old.
What A shame for Kennedy, never had a chance to really get it going?
So....back to Ole Miss...... Does anyone know what is REALLY behind the recent firings??
UK Track taking $...Surprise Surprise.... THIS IS ONE OF TWO THINGS CANADIAN FLOREAL IS KNOWN FOR BESIDES BEING A CLOSET RACIST
It will NEVER !!!!! be his fault. Just WAIT.....
That is interesting, because a few very talented and hard working Kentucky runners are getting their scholarships revoked. One of them has still never hit their HS times due to questionable coaching and 2 different coaches in 2 years.
The white right wing is not going to stand for this.
If a student attends a university and receives an academic scholarship that requires them to maintain a 3.5 GPA, and they only earn a 3.1 GPA they lose their academic funding. No one complains about that. But if an athlete receives athletic funding, and doesn't live up to their end of the bargin, and they get decreased, or completely cut, their are those that cry foul. Most of my coaching colleagues do not cut scholarships, but they should. I have a kid on the team who skips practice on a regular basis, and when I spoke to him about getting reduced/cut he howled like a scalded cat. Guess when he gets in the real world and misses work his boss will just reward him!
Scholarships of all types should be treated with fairness, but not treated as an entitlement.
I'm not arguing with the fact there's some guys/gals that mess around.
I'm saying if these athletes followed all the rules, showed up to practiced, put the work in and showed commitment then it's unethical to take away their $$$ or say don't come back. In my opinion
I know there's a new staff on board but a qualified coach recruited these athletes one point in time. If they were doing well enough to keep their $$$ before hand and they showed just as much dedication and commitment why should they get the axe just because the staff wants to bring in their athletes.
A good coach can get results out of MOST of their athletes. It shouldn't matter whether he recruited them or someone else did.

BUMP
I think Mississippi firings would've been confirmed by now if accurate. Anybody seen them yet at Regionals?
