I am an orthotist and specialize in treating athletes and active people. For over 20 years, I have treated and fit people with shoes, orthoses and shoe modifications with foot, ankle, knee and spinal issues.
I also am an avid runner and work very closely with athletic trainers/coaches whose athletes are in need of injury prevention and performance enhancing via footwear, foot orthoses, knee orthoses, etc. I never recommend only one brand of shoes to my patients/customers. I always methodically select and recommend several different brands/styles to people. I then take the necessary time to fit and evaluate the outcome via a gait analysis.
Spira happens to be one of the brands that I recommend and wear myself in addition to New Balance, Brooks, etc. I have been fortunate to successfully treat people with joint (hip, knee, ankle, foot) pain with these brands and proper foot orthoses/modification when necessary. Also, I have successfully fit many runners with Spira as well as other brands that have come back to me and thanked me for helping them with a PR.
I have literally seen the evolution of several mainstream brands including NB, Brooks and now Spira. I can honestly say that Spira has come of age for runners, walkers and for standing/walking in the workplace.
I truly feel that it is important to be properly evaluated, fit and followed up by a trained, experienced and knowledgeable shoe fitter or clinician. This in itself will give you the best results. Keep an open mind and value your relationship with your shoe fitter/clinician. If possible, it is also nice to have options to compare when being fit with footwear.
One particular style or brand may work better for you than others. Always remember that everyone has different needs when it comes to footwear (i.e. alignment, support, cushioning, stablity, lower/higher to the ground, etc.) I look forward to the continued evolution of Spira as well as other brands that give me the opportunity to help others with their footwear needs.
