Garmin X vs. any iPhone app?
Garmin X vs. any iPhone app?
the best gps is no gps. serious. it really messes with your head and your training.
Garmin for sure.
Get the 310 or 910 and be a happy runner!

I ran with both for several days. The differences were pretty small and honestly I did not have a way to validate which one was correct. I was more interested in differences for a talk I was preparing.
However, I prefer NOT to run with my phone for several reasons including the weight and fear of damaging it. I did like some of the features of some of the apps I played with though. So if you are going to run with your phone anyway, then why buy another piece of equipment?

I have been running almost daily for a year and a half with my iPhone in an arm strap, including some pretty rainy days. I have never even come close to any risk of damaging it.
Thanks! Why?
I'm on the verge of wearing out my second Garmin. I've gotten about 4 years from each. The batteries stop taking a charge (which I expected) but the more troubling is the displays get a short or something and intermittently go out. I do like using them because it makes it easy to do my training log.
I'm the kind of guy that still uses the same Hewlett Packard Calculator I bought in college 30 years ago, so the lack of quality is troubling.
That being said, the watches are a lot less bulky than an Iphone. It seems like a lot to carry-but I suppose it does have an alternate use.
I'm not a big fan of cell phones in general. I run to escape that "always" on-call feeling that the cell phone era has brought us. Technology should be our servant, not our master.
