Agreed.
I've run this before and think it's a good session for the mile, especially utilizing it as preparation, not as a race.

As I predicted, the mile fanatics have got him. Now he'll never run 1:45. What a shame.
That's your excuse for your earlier ridiculous prediction? That he won't run 1:45 because people care more about the mile?
... well, maybe you just realized what you were actually saying and are trying to distance yourself from it? Is so, better late than never...
(for what it's worth, I agree with you that he should be aiming for the 800, but it's because I think he's more of an 800/1500 type, and I think he has a shot to run under 1:47.5, maybe even 1:47 - and probably a better shot at sub-1:47 than sub-4:00y)
There are no great US 1500m runners without 1:44/1:45 capability.
Who cares what Arroyo runs from blocks? The kid could split

6 x 600m at mile pace is going to benefit both his mile and his 800m. That's a great workout. Also, don't forget that we aren't sure what he's doing on the other days as well.
This ^
Why do people on this site look at one workout and suppose that it represents an athletes entire training program? So he did 6x600 @ mile gp.....does that mean that on another day he isn't doing 6 x 300 @ 800gp? or 6 x 200 @ 24? What the hell is rip snorting speed anyway?

Impressive workout, this kid is a monster.
That's a lot of pounding on a concrete track over the course of a season though. Obviously they want him to be a part of the team, but with a chance to do some historic stuff, it would make sense to take the kid to a decent track for his workouts. Maybe they are already doing that though.
THAT HAT THO.
that hat is RIDICULOUS
what the HELL
also bon iver music in the intro? kind of putting me to sleep
god runnerspace's website is absolutely terrible.
why's he running on the inner border
working HARD; 130, 130, 130, 130, 135, 135.
where's he going to college?
A true sub-4 guy would turn the wheels on this workout and rock 1:29-1:27 for the final 600ms. Arroyo's in 4:02 full mile shape AT BEST.
I don't believe he's going to colege.
He is going to Florida university.
He's going to be a gator next year.
you are probably right. taper him down for a week and let him rock up to a mile fit and fresh. coach seems like he's smoking him.
is he a junior or a senior?
Senior. I believe he's got a better shot at 1:46 high then sub-4.
How do they not tell him to run a bit slower on the first couple since it is obviously hot out and 1:30 is not 4 min effort in those conditions. Trainers, concrete track, and he said he feels it is hot out. They are a bit too focused on pace rather than effort. Also, was this a Tuesday workout? So he has hard tuesday in the heat, 8 mmiles, then another workout on thurs, and a meet saturday where he wants to run sub 9? I mean i'm all for racing a good amount, but coupling that with frequent scorching workouts and its a recipe for peaking early, which might be showing.
I bet the Florida distance coaches are licking their lips right now at what type of talent they are getting. If all goes to plan he will probably run like 3:58 mile indoors his freshman year.

Unreal. Why don't they use youtube if they are running an Amiga server?
I like Coach Placencia's burka.

And how many state champions have you coached? Coach Plasencia knows what he's doing.
I was a state champion who was coached by someone who has coached state champions. I'm not saying the guy isn't a good coach, it just seems like a bit much at this time of year. I'm really just reaching for a better idea of his overall training and opinions of this type of density in the middle of the season rather than implying the coaching doesn't know what he is doing. I'm sure he is a really good coach and I know nothing of his training methods, but would like to hear about pros and cons of this type of density of training in his stellar season so far. I hope he runs sub-4 and 1:46, etc. I just think it is very easy to go a bit overboard when he is in such great shape this early with months to go.
