I was looking at the entries for the Oregon Preview this weekend and saw that Mike Berry would be running the 800. Any possibility that he would seriously be focusing on the 8, or just using it as an early season workout? Intriguing nonetheless as he has run 44.75 for 400. I'll definitely be watching that race if it is online somewhere.

Te Oregon Preview meet is famous for placing Oregon athletes in over-distance, or under-distance events for the purpose of building either strength or speed at their primary event. I doubt we'll see Mike Berry running any other 800 meter races this year. One day in the future, perhaps he will seriously entertain the 800, but not for now.

I've heard quite a few stories of 400m guys running early season 800m races. Usually they are 46+ types though, run 1:51-1:53 or thereabouts. It will be interesting to see a 44.x guy run an 800m, but don't count on anything great. A 1:50 would be a fine time.

Of course there is no way he is going to run 1:50. If he could run 1:50 now, then he'd immediately become the NCAA favorite for outdoors.

Uh, his teammate is the current indoor champion in the 800 and his other teammate was 8th. Oregon is all set in the 800 this year.
He is already 10 ten in the 400 in the us and top 15 in the world.

No inside word, it is just very soon after indoor racing, a lot of rough travel, and finals week.

rather, a 44.x guy will feel ok after an opening 52.
life gets really strange somewhere in the back straigt around 550m.
if he's got some aerobic ability they you'll see a 148 or something like that.
otherwise, he'll be walking at the end in a crap time.
