That would have been a 4 second or so PR to.

I was there. Jenkins just about pulled down the okst kid. Appropriate call. On a side note, the men's 4x4 was unreal!
I did two interviews with Jenkins. One after the race, when there was no DQ and then one after the DQ.
He is disappointed but they are appealing the DQ so let's see what happens.
When I asked him if he knew what he got DQ'd for he did mention what people are talking about- at one point either on the 2nd to last or last lap (i think it was 2nd to last lap)he grabbed Erassa's jersey - but didn't think much of it in the heat of the race.
At the same time, he realizes that nothing can take away from the fact that Jenkins ran like a beast tonight. He nearly broke the old NCAA record. Not bad for a 4:15 HS guy.
Speaking of which, he told me he only started running senior year and ran 4:15 on about 25 mpw.
We'll put the interviews up on the letsrun youtube channel late tonight (The internet at the meet is awfully slow) but it likely wont be til like 3 am or something.
Well, lets hope that officials are reasonable and he is reinstated. I am sure we have all seen a lot worse with nothing being called. He did run like a beast and should be rewarded for it.
Jenkins had a shot at Lawi if he had'nt been impeded by Kemoi & Erassa. I'm not saying he wins it, but he has a shot at knocking off Lalang.
It's complete crap that he was DQ'ed. Hometown redneck pig sooie officials making sure Kemoy scored enough points to seal the win before the 4x4. What a shame for a guy who ran a gutsy race.
Eric, if you're reading this, you've got a bright future. Keep training hard, put this shit behind you!!
Nothing hometown about anything...nearly pulled Erassa down. Not cool, despite it not being intentional. Is it because he's white that you're so bent out of shape?
You must have been blocked from view then... watch the replay... there is no way that he deserved a dq...
It's you that is bent out of shape... it has nothing to do with color or hometown or american vs. non-american... there was bumping, then contact, and then trying to regain position... Jenkins didn't cause the contact...
let me ask you this, "If there was no contact, what do you think would have happened?"
People are bent out of shape because a kid got screwed. Your the one bringing race into it...
Sorry BTC, that was for the guy above you!
From what I saw, and believe me I was watching Jenkins the whole way, he started to move with 200 to go, Errasa started moving outside and got in Jenkins way so he put his arm out and on his shoulder to a.) let him know he's there, and b.) to maintain balance...Jenkins then proceeded to move EVEN MORE OUTSIDE to give him room in which Errasa and Lelei kind of bumped each other and completely cut off Jenkins who was making his move almost out in the third lane. Eric ran a ballsy and tactically smart race and got screwed. He did not deserve to be DQ'd and the recognition he is receiving is not in the respect he deserves. He got 2nd place and beat some really good guys, and also picked up a four second pr as well. Look out for him outdoors, and definitely in the future.
appealed and denied... your post isn't cool... a kid that just ran a great race was denied... don't bring any agendas into it... why don't you just think for a moment that a kid from a non-high profile school was denied and his race effort had nothing to do with it...
I knew there would be a protest but I don't see a reason to DQ. With how everyone looked at the bell, I'd say a little bump and reach to steady himself had virtually no effect on the order of finish. No one even went down.
Go and watch the replay on ESPN3:
Here is what happens:
1) At the bell, Jenkins swings wide and Kemoy Campbell bumps him into Erassa. He puts his hand out to steady himself and protect his space.
2) 10 meters later as Jenkins is passing Erassa wide, Campbell clips Erassa from behind causing him to stumble and lose momentum. Jenkins didn’t touch him in this exchange and had nothing to do with it.
The only person worthy of a DQ was Campbell.

Finally someone else sees it. Thank You! Without Campbell's contact neither guy would have "impeded" each other
Our vieo of the Jenkins interview after the DQ is here:
I just watched a replay of the race. Nothing big at all.
Jenkins came up at the bell on the outside. He was moving from fourth into third and wanted to move into the rail ahead of Cambpell for the turn. There wasn't room to cut in and he seemed to be a bit off balance. He took like one step halfway in and in lost his balance and then ended up grabbing the jersey of the OSU guy Erassa in 2nd to steady himself.
Everything was fine after that for 3-4 steps. Then Campbell is actually the one that stepped on Erassa guy from behind, and knocked him off way balance, but one could argue that Jenkins set the whole string into motion.
Was it dirty? No. Was it worth a DQ? I guess if you are following the letter of the law I can see it, particularly when it's involving a guy for the host school involved in the team title.
The jersey grab made it worth look way worse than it really was. He barely stepped in at all when he shouldn't have.
Dirtier stuff happens in probably every race in Europe.
I hope Jenkins is VERY PROUD of the way he ran tonight. Baller. If I was him, since they don't need the team points, I wouldn't be losing any sleep at all about the DQ. He knows how he ran.
Baller? Really? He's a great runner and probably (maybe?) a good person, but I don't think the word "baller" should ever be used to describe Eric Jenkins.
Was the appeal denied, or what's the time frame on that decision?
Thanks for the video. The kid is obviously disappointed but you have to give him props for being a class act. Looks like we have a new star in the making.
I watched the replay a few more times and agree that Jenkins didn't grab Erassa intentionally and the grab didn't impede Erassa. A second later Campbell clips Erassa a little and slows him. Sucks for Jenkins, but a good race nonetheless.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
