Because world leader in mid-February really counts for something...

Its pointless reaching his pick in February, the serious business starts in May (Diamond league). He will be burnt out by then.
Watch out for Mukhtar Edriss and Hagos Gebrehiwet..
Kind of like how he fizzled out in 2011 and 2012 when it counted? I'm not a fan, but their formula tend to produce results during the championship season: Olympics, World Championships, and Brussels 10K.
They will take a full week break in March and restart the cycle all over again. If anything, the times he's running now will only make him more potent over the longer distances in this Summer.

I would argue that the serious business starts around 6:55 P.M., Moscow time, on August 10th.
AR means something and Rupp's times are impressive in an absolute sense because of where they fall on the all-time indoor lists.
However, World Lead in February really doesn't tell you anything, except about people's training schedules.
Thank you NFW for common sense. The previous few posters apparently have issues in which they love trollin' to much to use common sense.
Indoor or x-country can be great indicators for upcoming performance levels if they athlete stays healthy, I too look for great things from Galen Rupp over 5000/10000m.
vipam, you should be looking for either a peak too early or more drug accusations on rupp. it just is getting to the point of lance armstrong proportions this year. i don't buy it and many others don't either
You can never be 100% certain that an athlete is clean or not; however, Galen ran 13:37.91 HSR as a 17 yr old which points to huge potential. An athlete with that kinda talent certain can develop into the athlete he is today- clean. Am I certain he is clean- no BUT he hasn't tested negative; therefore, it's no need to point the finger.
Don't give me the Lance story as to competing dirty but passing test, because then every athlete would be suspect.
Why is Galen getting more slack then every other distance runner including Mo Farah? HE RAN 13:37.91 in high school!!!!
Knock it out the park Rupp! 12:43.33 and 26:29.29 so pack up and go home, it's over. 10000m GOLD to USA, USA!
Honestly, tire of Rupp's name been posted all over facebook!! and mostly on flotrack twitter fb!! Those guys in flotrack they get all their panties wet when they hear Ruppo's name!! He is a great athlete but just give it up already!!
12:44/26:27. No gold medal.
If you believe Salazar, and I do, Rupp was in 12:50 shape last year. I think everyone knows this kid is capable of 12:45/26:30 +/- a few seconds depending on the race and pacing.

The better Rupp runs, the more I worry about this. Crossing my fingers he'll be able to carry it through the summer.
Looks like doing the WOD's daily and his crossfit inspired sprint repeats are finally starting to pay off:

others have run faster than 13:37.91 as a 17 year old and not gone on to run as fast as rupp. so i am not sure that statement really means a whole lot as far as potential. also getting more slack would indicate that he would be getting more of a pass than others which you are indicating he not. the rate of improvement is very interesting and seems to just keep coming which is odd.
How about know alittle more before making your statement. Rupp ran 13:37.91 in high school and never been an advocate of high mileage early in his career.
So for him to run 13:37.91 in high school and no doubt with much less mileage then his African counterparts; therefore, so great talent. I don't know if he is clean but I do know that he showed great potential early in his career and off less mileage then most.
In fact he still actually run less mileage then his training partner today! Potential, injury free training, and higher mileage equal amazing results.
vipam you are half correct. rupp may have run that time off less mileage than some of his similiarly aged african counterparts. but what about his american and european counterparts? was german fernandez running less mileage than rupp? is it possible he has been able to do the precise amount of training and stay injury free for so long without use of drugs when others before could not, sure. but it is nun the less suspect to question the rate of improvement and near bullet proofness of rupp when so many others did not see that same rate of improvement
It is a matter of time until Rup and all those oregon athletes got busted.i am 100% sure they are using banned performance drugs, with NIKE on the back yard protecting them from random USADA and WADA drug tests.DOPERS.

I've thought about this very deeply and I am certain he will run a 12:39.72 and a 26:29.94.
He has no other option. It is his destiny.
That is all.
I'm with Swami on this one.
I feel like Galen will more than likely lower his 26:48 AR this season, and whatever he lowers it to will remain the AR for a very, very long time.
