I am a junior in high school who is interested in running for UC Boulder. I've already contacted the coaches and have received the standards for try out, walk on, and scholarship distance runners, and I expect to be within the walk on/scholarship range by the spring of next year, barring any unforeseeable accidents and whatnot. I've visited the area on two separate occasions and visited the campus once, while at an altitude running camp about an hour and a half away from Boulder, and from what I've seen, I very much enjoy the areas and the school, plus I have family very close to Boulder. I'm not one hundred percent certain what I want to major in or study, but some possibilities are engineering, or sort of English study. I would say that this school is my first choice, but I am also very interested in being coached by Mark Wetmore. I've read Running with the Buffaloes and seen/heard him talk about his training methods, specifically aerobic development, and they fit with what works well for me - I am beginning to really develop myself aerobically and am seeing huge improvements in fitness, and I do believe that - I believe this is Jack Daniels' idea - running is a primarily aerobic sport, meaning aerobic development is high on my list. Plus, my studies of training for running have led me to believe that high school should, ideally, prepare a runner aerobically and not focus on conditioning with things like track intervals, which I also believe in.
That being said, could any former or current athletes/students/area residents tell me a little about their experiences either going to school, training, or living at Boulder?
