all those who do TM's are dirty
Have done both, and agree with those saying Tough Mudder.
People have died attempting the Tough Mudder. I think that says it all.
You're a troll, or you're full of crap. There is no way anyone who has done both would rate the TM as more difficult. I've done both, and the TM is a joke in comparison. If you can walk and lift your body weight a few times, you can finish a TM; and that's completing all the obstacles. Moreover, finishing a TM in the upper echelon of finishers still doesn't sniff 3:30 ability. Case in point, my group finished in the top 5% of TM finishers at our event. My brother ran a 1:45 half a month before - and he was the pinnacle of fitness in our group. Had I been in sub 3-hour shape I could have run the course 3 times over and finished ahead of the first finishers running backwards. And we finished the thing under the worst conditions on record at the time, with well-below freezing wind-chill and snow/sleet blowing at 6000+ feet, up/down icy/muddy ski runs.

I assume you've never done one. More than likely you haven't done either. Have you?

(remember, "finishing" a tough mudder means you can walk the entire way and skip obstacles. How is that "tough" or hard or "impressive." ?? again, I guarantee you any amount of $ that 99% of tough mudder finishers could not break 3:30 in the marathon. And the flip side: 99% of 3:30 marathoners could "FINSIH" [remember what that means] a tough mudder)
lmfao

People have died attempting the Tough Mudder. I think that says it all....and people have died during the marathon and that has been shown to actually do permanent damage to the heart of those who are untrained.
I remember the days when I was running 20:00 for 5k, a 3:30 marathon would have been daunting if I were ever to attempt it. However, I completely know the difference between "Finishing" and "Racing". a 3:30 marathon is still a race against the clock regardless of what kind of shape you are in. Anyone can walk the hills and half-ass obstacles while walking in between obstacles (which seems to be the case for the majority of tough mudders)
To finish alone, I'ld actually put them on par. But since we are talking a marathon time goal in which it was the average time back when road running was legit this is a no brainer here.

Agreed. On letsrun, a 3:30 is for "hobby joggers". But in reality, the typical sedentary person can't do a three month training program and expect to run a 3:30. by contrast, a sedentary person might be able to tough it out and complete a tough mudder even without any training whatsoever.
If death is your barometer, then they would be equal, as people die after/during marathons every year.
No idea but at least you won't get staff infections and scabbies doing a marathon.
Male: Tough Mudder - Basically any man could run 3:30
Female: 3:30 marathon. - TM takes too much functional strength

Died before they saved up the entry fee
If by "Any Man" you meant about 10% then you would be correct. Make educated statements please.
3:30 marathon is easily harder.
Although I like the obstacle course races, you should see some of the people who finish these things. Literally obese. No fat or out of shape people run a 3:30 marathon. I only minimally exercise anymore, but I am confident in finishing a Tough Mudder. No way could I come close to a 3:30 right now.

You obviously have not been to a marathon lately.
Never been to one, actually. I know 8 min miles isn't setting the world on fire, but it is still actual running for an entire marathon. I can't imagine a fat person running a 3:30. Completing a marathon, sure. Do one of these obstacle course races and take a look at the people who you get stuck behind from earlier races. 3:30 is not within the realm of possibility for these people.

A bunch of my friends did a Tough Mudder last year. Most of them couldn't run a 5k at 3:30 pace. So, 3:30 marathon by a long shot.
A 10:53 5k is pretty quick man, not being able to do that is nothing to be ashamed of.
I assume you know that you meant, "3 hour, 30 minute" marathon pace for five kilometers of distance, right?
Obviously the 3:30 is harder. I've run both, and it's not even close. I doubt more than 5% of TM finishers would break 3:30.
But I give credit to the Tough Mudder organizers for convincing their participants that merely finishing the TM is even in the same galaxy as a 3:30 marathon.
marathon 4sho
I've run mid 2:20s in the marathon, but I've never done a tough mudder. I watch some family members do one at a ski resort. it looked very challenging, but it looked like a lot of fun.
I think I could go do either, a 3:30 marathon or a tough mudder, on any given day of the week.
That being said, I think that the 3:30 marathon is more impressive than finishing a tough mudder.
