sub 17. Im an old guy now but 35 years ago I could do a 16:30 3 mile at the track in training by myself, relax for ten minutes and do a 16:21. But all I could do was a 4:59.

Deepends on your physiology. My race was 800m. Broke 5 in eighth grade. Rarely broke seventeen as a senior.
I'm a loser because I haven't done either.
I'm a pretty confusing case. I have good speed, 27-30 in 10x200m workouts, but my PRs are really strange. I'm 35 years old btw:
Mile: 5:09 (had a pacer for the first 400m on a 200m track, then went completely solo)
5K: 17:30 (road race with decent competition)
I thought my good foot speed would get me well under 5, and the fact that 17:30 shows OK/average endurance. So what is wrong with me!!!!!????
