it would help you to develop better speed so ya. Although 5k/10k would help with endurance so whatever you need more work on
If you are in HS you will miss out on half the running experience if you do not do track. It is a good idea to try track to see if you like it. Also if you have a coach who coaches both, it is generally a good idea to stick with one training plan (his/hers) year round than constantly switching plans.
