So, on any other year, this animosity towards NXN and the use of Portland Meadows is minimal. The Footlocker vs. NXN debate emerges every year regardless of what happens at the meet.
The course is not the problem. A bit boring for my taste, but no different than many NCAA layouts or places like Stanford where you run up one golf hole and down another, back and forth, 2k loop here, 1k loop there.
Nobody is complaining that the mud screwed up the girls race. It was supposed to be FM winning again and Baxter a favorite over Cain.
But tons of hate for the boys race! Just because the "4 favorites" lost to an "underdog" Wharton? The dude finished a fraction of a second behind national favorite Leingang at Footlocker MW. He's for real. The top 4 "favorites" for the team title finished in the top 5, but Arcadia wasn't the popular pick.
The truth is, not many people predicted the results on the boys side and they don't want to admit they were wrong. It must have been the mud's fault. Sorry to pick on someone like Watchout, but just because the "speed ratings" and merges of regional races don't match the results sheet, doesn't mean the race results are invalid.
Props to Nike and Footlokcer for putting money into great events for high school kids,.
