They do, but it would appear that the calls have gone out. If you follow these threads from previous years, you'll find a pattern of calls going out on Saturdays and announcements made the next day. It seems hard to believe they'd call teams as they make decisions. Much more likely they'd come to all their decisions, call the teams, and then announce on Sunday. And, it's after 11 PM EDT--nobody would wait this late to call any eastern teams.
Actually, I'll make a correction on that. According to this thread:

calls went out on Sunday last year, but still in advance of the NXN announcement. It would be simpler if Nike would time the announcement to come directly on the heels of their calls. Perhaps they have their reasons, though.
According to twitter feed of midwest coordinator, MW got one each, boys and girls:
So, that would seem to indicate word of selections has gone out. Now, it's just about waiting for the leaks...
I'd love to know if Xavier girls made it (I'm assuming Pine C did). Did someone say CA #3 (Saugus) made it? Or was that boys?
Yeah...they decided to Run McGorty at Footlockers and then Chantilly came up third on a 6th runner tie breaker. How pissed would you be if you were the number 5 runner for Chantilly who busted himself if he can't go to nationals because coach got greedy?

What about Chantilly? They have been on a roll all season. Add McGory for Nationals and that is an appealing team to have at NXN.

I take it as almost a given at this point that girls at-larges will go to:
Pine Creek (Altitude)
Saugus (Newhall)
Aurora
The big question would appear to be, "Who gets #4?"
Simi Valley. NXN is not going to lose Baxter to Footlocker.

Both of the CA#3 teams got in. Xavier Prep, unfortunately, did not make it but Pine Creek did.

Glad to see Henderson get in.
So glad to see that they balanced the regions this year. Awesome that East Aurora made it after participating in the Open race for the last two years. Hard work and determination has really paid off for that team.
What? East Aurora has been racing in the seeded race for a while and was 4th in 2010 at regionals and had a legit claim to be picked for an at-large.
They participated in the Open/Citizens race in Portland at the Nationals.

Ah, well. I certainly think Xavier was deserving, and I think performed better than at least E Aurora (not that they were bad, either), but I understand why the NY team would get it - the region has dominated girls competition for a while. Too bad Xavier didn't run their best race at Regionals
I think this is probably the least controversial set of selections to date. In my estimation, the committee--whoever they are--is getting better at this. You could argue one or two of the schools that got overlooked, but at whose expense? For once, there's not any outward suggestion of a regional bias to the selections.
Don't know where anyone has heard " an idea being floated to combine future NXN and Northeast regional championships".... sorry, but that has never been even discussed .... will never happen...

Chantilly boys though..

Chantilly did it to themselves. It's not NXN's job to bail out teams/individuals making poor decisions. They bail out Chantilly this year, then what next year? And, it's not even clear that the SE merits an at-large even with Chantilly running at full strength.

Same deal with Lake Braddock girls, who got 4th w/o Sophie Chase (who won Footlocker regional same day). A shame for her team.
I don't know either of these kids, and maybe they have very good reasons for choosing FL individual races over NXN team event - but for the teams who had star individuals lead them to NXN bids, the others should be grateful for team spirit!
And by passing these teams over, Nike has clearly established the guidelines - if you want to get a bid, you gotta run their regional. (Not that this should be surprising).
