That is awesome. Robert Gary is a great coach. Have they locked up a shoe deal yet?
What planet do you live on? Robert Gary is a terrible coach. Just like every blind squirrel eventually finds a nut; any coach can take a very talented athlete away from one event just to turn them into a mediocre steepler. OSU has sucked up the Big10 for years.
Mammoth was never for wannabes. I believe all the athletes who trained there had sponsors. Some of these athletes, like Deena and Meb, and perhaps Uceny and Pierce, have made quite a bit of money. Not any different than John Smith or Bob Kersey.
And it is not at all clear that Mahon was forced out or anything. He has had obvious success with mid distance (if only Morgan could stay on her feet there would be medal success) in recent years. The UK spends more on its athletes than the USA does, and it may simply be that the Brits hired him away just like they did with Dan Pfaff (and he got them a gold in the LJ).
Notice where Uceny and Pierce are going.

Is it even legal for a D1 coach to coach a professionally sponsored group?

Bob Kersee is a volunteer assistant at UCLA and I believe he has been such for many years, so, yes, an NCAA coach can coach a professional team.
Yes it's allowed. There are lots of examples of NCAA coaches coaching pros and getting paid for it - Clyde Hart, Lananna, Vig, etc.
I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Hastings return to the group with Uceny gone and the Kastors in charge. Her and Deena appear to be pretty good friends
Vin Lannana, Andy Gerard, Edrick Floreal, Mike Brown, Terrence Mahon got shit canned in Cali. Life in Cali ain't the beach.
Mancos Project, too.
Has a new head coach for this program been named yet?
With a brand new track, this location has a lot going for it. I find it funny that someone posted earlier stating the that this place was "only going to be used for camps". Training camps produce money, and provide a part-time job for athletes on the contract bubble. Of course, they also get to use the facility for training. How the hell is this a bad thing?
Grants, "charity money", camps, etc... Until the sport does a better job of marketing itself, these are passable alternatives to use in developing talent. If you're not fast enough to earn a contract, then you need to be willing to put in an effort that makes these situations work.
All you need is a setting like Mammoth, an accessible track, a coach with some pedigree, and some seriously talented athletes willing to work some hours to make something special happen.
So I ask again, those in the know, what's the word on a coach for the club? What does the sponsorship level look like?
yes andrew kastor
What is Kastor's pedigree, again? Other than massaging and marrying a fast chick.
I can only assume you appreciate the irony, since that is the identical pedigree Mahon had before becoming coach.
He ran for Adams State I believe under Martin.
People need to understand that rotating out and in coaches is normal. Whether management publically fires or does not give raise in pay for lack of medals it does not matter. Coaches get hot for spells and make big money, and then, get cold for spells and are rotated out and replaced. That's life. Look at the reloving door of MLB, NBA, and NFL coaches and managers ;-)

You are wrong. Mahon was an All-American at Villanova and a 2:13 marathoner as a pro. How many top level pro coaches have this pedigree except for Salazar?
Um, Hudson?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
