I'm a collegiate runner and am thinking of trying to gain some weight this winter. I will be running ~100mpw, so this is pretty ambitious, but I think if I can put on ~10 lbs I'll get stronger. As of now I'm 6' 1.75" and ~142. I want to try to get up to 150. Focus events are 5k and 10k. Obviously I want to get stronger, so I want to put on muscle. I feel like being so thin has affected my ability to be a powerful runner--I am not a great hill runner and am not a speed demon by any means, and these are clearly my biggest weaknesses, so putting on some muscle will hopefully help me in these regards. Simply put, I feel like I'll be faster if I'm a bit bigger and stronger. Plus, I'd rather not look like a wraith anymore.
So yeah, any stories of people getting a lot faster from putting on weight? Or, how would you advise I try to do this while putting in lots of miles? I'm planning on incorporating lots of short (~60-80m) sprints/longer (~200m) strides (~31sec) to work on speed throughout the winter, ideally at least a day of each a week plus regular post run strides on other days. I'm also going to try to swim 1000m-1600m (~20-30mins) a few times a week.
