i called 15 minutes ago and donated 1,000 dollars. america MUST give financial funding for 500 mandatory hours of autism training for police officers. this is the ONLY thing i care about in the upcoming election and its the biggest problem in our country. police officers MUST learn how to deal with people who have autism and just leave them alone. they need to know what the signs are and immediately back off when they have suspicion that the person might have a form of autism. i am constantly dealing with the police in my area because they do not understand how to deal with my autistic son.
please help. which president Obama or Romney is more likely to envoke a 500 mandatory hours of autism training for police officers?

Right. Cops need to understand that breaking the law is fine if you are socially awkward.

Again, what are we donating money to? Did you donate $250 to research? To family support? To lobbying efforts? To some charity's "overhead"? What is this money being donated to?

I'm not "making fun of" anyone. I'm simply wondering why police should hold autistic people to a different standard. Police should arrest people who are breaking the law and leave everyone else alone. Why should the equation be any different when dealing with autistic people.

Wow. You are extremely stupid.
You obviously don't have the slightest clue what autism is.

Do you think that autistic people who do illegal things should not be arrested? Do you think that autistic people who don't do illegal things should be arrested? If your answer to both of these questions is "no," then I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with me about.
I think the point is that cops bother not ju.st people who break the law but people who act "suspiciously".
I wonder if in time criminals would start acting as if to get the cops off their trail.
Fvck comedy central what a bunch of not funny hacks they really suck. I'll place my donation elsewhere that's not through their dopey fake bs program

Sure, but that's not a matter of autism training. It is a matter of general police training. Any cop who lays their hands on anyone who isn't breaking the law (autistic or otherwise) should go to prison for assault and/or battery.

No one can answer this? Then why the hell are you giving them money?

I'm not even going to waste my breath on you, arrogant peebrain. You are obviously an overprivledged white male whose children are just mainstream normies who have never had 1 minute of struggle their entire life. Or perhaps you are still in highschool and are making fun of the children on the small bus, because you are jealous that the ones with autism are FAR better in math and science than you will ever be.
Until you have a child with autism or aspergers, you know nothing about the constant everyday struggle that the parents go through. Please take your ignorance and arrogance and hate-filled republican non-sence elsewhere.

So you don't believe that "cops should arrest people who are breaking the law and leave everyone else alone"? I'm not saying that cops should mess with autistic kids. I am saying that the cops should not mess with anyone who isn't breaking the law, including autistic people. I'm just not sure why this requires autism specific training. If you posses the necessary mental capacity, feel free to explain.
Is Comedy Central doing a roast of someone autistic? 'Cause they won't get it.....
BTW, police don't really care if your kid's autistic, just like they don't care if the family pet dog is friendly - they're quick to shoot and/or arrest and sweep it under the legal rug late....
later....
Ok I am ignorant but what kind of things happen with the cops and your child?
And to the other poster that may be your opinion but it's not the way the law works. Cops pursue on probable grounds.

Pretty sure you are a troll. Nobody can be THIS much of a dolt. Please google Autism, and learn what it is. It probably wont help you any, seeing as though it obviously too complex for you to even try to understand. People like you do not want to understand.

I understand what autism is. I don't understand why autistic people need to be treated any differently by the police. I have worked with a number of autistic kids. None have had any run-ins with police.

It's hard to tell if you are trolling, or just not very smart or sensitive to disabled people. Ill help you out....
People with autism like to repeat things under their breath. They are very strong in certain areas, and the trick to working with autistics is to focus on the strengths, because their weak areas will never get any better. Autistics are also incapable of understanding respect and they also make poor eye contact. They also do not understand discipline or punishment or regret or remorse. everything emotional to them is just blank.
Please......Please.......come to any household in America that has an autistic child. Watch a mother or father try to spank an autistic child, and then witness the child just standing there, bent over, with a completely confused look on their face.
YOU CANNOT DISCIPLINE OR PUNISH PEOPLE WITH AUTISM. THEY BRAINS DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
