Having dealt with NYRR many times before, and their elite program, I highly doubt they didn't offer Fam a spot in the 5K elite field. I can imagine that they didn't offer him a ton of money but NYRR is pretty generous with offering elite athletes perks and free admission (invites, hotels, etc), especially for those like Fam who are local.
THIS is the problem with Fam.
He only runs on pure hate so a performance like this isn't surprising. He would do poorly if they let him in.
It is the Fam Problem.
Boo freaking hoo. He was, by all recent performances, washed up and well past his prime. Run faster, and you'll get rewarded. 13.40 would have gotten him 129th at the Iten turkey trot 5k. #realitycheck
The NYRR elite athlete coordinator responded on twitter: "to be 100% clear, Fam never asked to run the Dash 5k". Hard to complain about not being in a race you never asked to be in. Typical Fam. If he isn't whining about something he isn't happy or motivated.
In Fam's mind, he is always the victim.
Fam is dope. That is all.
I'm way beyond caring about this guy. He's too much of a flake. He's destroyed his own career.
The "5k" he ran this morning is a notorious short course. MIGHT be 3 miles.
He's ranted and raged about the USATF and the NYRR, the two most powerful groups in the U.S. in our sport.
He's ranted and raged against many former sponsors.
Fam didn't even qualify for the Olympic Trials and he is a track steeple specialists.
Fam is writing the book on how not to be able to make a living as a professional runner - not run the times when it counts and make enemies of those who can help you the most.
Shame is the Fam has a new baby at home, I would think he'd be more serious about making a living to support his family, but instead he continues to rage against anyone who can help him do that, like they owe him.
My advice: shut your mouth, run fast in the big races and be thankful for the help you get along the way.

The NYRR are probably too nice to hold a grudge, but I hope after this nonsense, they never actually do invite him to one of their events ever again...
What an unbelievable crybaby.
Fam has become one of those people in society that would much prefer not receiving something then receiving it and then not having an excuse.
Maybe if he ran the 13:40 before they might have picked him
Hello letsrun community
I tweeted today on NYRR as one of very few pro runners racing today with total freedom. I found out they had been paying and inviting Christian Hesch and runners like him to compete in races that they had me paying to run on my own dime. I even heard they had offered an invite for Hesch to attend the upcoming Dash. I received no invite and did not ask for one after hearing the recent news on Hesch; that did not sit well. I'm a New Yorker that was disheartened by a 'NY' organization that I feel has turned its back on me and other New Yorkers. I love racing in NY and have deep family ties to the city and boroughs, so I alway try to race there at every opportunity. That is the gist of it.
To those who want to bring up my background with past sponsors; I'm currently in good standing with all sponsors I have done business with. If anyone says otherwise it is false and defamatory. Sponsors whose contracts are always legally bound by confidentiality would not likely post on here.
I can humbly say I have done right by this sport in all aspects.
Never let anyone tell you you're not good enough. Be the positive change you want to see in the sport.

What is "racing today with total freedom" supposed to mean, and is it even a good thing?
