Manzano came up big when the stage was biggest this year, but pretty much sucked otherwise.
Manzano had a better season but I would say Centro is the top American Miler right now. Much more consistent and Manzano's height was only a little higher than Centro's (silver v bronze). Centro is on the way up more than Manzano is
The thread doesn't say number 1 now. It says America's best miler. Webb has the American record therefore he is number 1. Plus, after his 8k win this morning and moving back to Portland soon, Webb is back baby!

Manzano: Nat'l Champion & Olympic Silver Medalist.
Centro: 2nd Place Natl's to Manzano. OG 4th. 3rd places in time-trials.
Centro himself would trade all his races for Olympic Silver.

Wake up , trials champ and Oly medalist Leo gets the nod this year.
I think Leo will rightfully get the nod as #1 miler in the USA this year by T&F News, but I also think Centro is the best miler in the nation

This song and dance never gets old with the AW knob gobblers..
Webb has really performed well the last 2 Olympic 1500m finals. Records will be broken and taken away. Olympic Medals are for eternity.
doesnt centro look kinda like symmonds in this pic http://www.letsrun.com/2012/images/centromart.jpg

That's the answer. This season, Manzano has been better than Centro when it counted.
I would have said Centro last season based on Daegu.
Manzano can be erratic where Centro seems very consistent and Centro is still young and will probably improve. I would bet that Centro will be America's #1 miler over the next couple of years. However, right now, based on the actual season they each had, it's definitely Manzano.

Yes, yes, and yes.
It will be great to see Centro the next 5 yrs. He will be great to watch.. He is a gamesman AlSal is going to make Centro a beast.

well said.
Even those grudgingly saying Manzano, don't have it fully right: Manzano's 2012 performance is prob. higher than Centro's ceiling.
Centro has little chance of matching Manzano's Olympic Silver & Nat'l Champ season in 2016 or 2020. And don't be contradictory: The entire board's bashed fast times in rabbitted races & *always* said they matter little compared to championship races. UNTIL Centro wins Gold, it isn't a discussion. Saying he will is trumped by knowing Manzano's better.
just stating what I see wrote:
No.

Its pretty cute that you come screaming at me for hating on Manzano (which I never did, I just said he's not the greatest) then have some womanly breakdown about all the hate here, and then turn around, and start calling people knob gobblers for saying Webb is the greatest.
I'm going to buy you a plane ticket, and a hotel room, and fly you out to Tucson, just so I beat the hell out of you.
Centro had a much superior best time, a better indoor time, superior record on the Euro circuit, a victory at 5th Avenue, and two losses when it counted, at USATF nationals and Olympics. Centro already has World Bronze on a day when Kiprop and Kiplagat were ready to run, so he doesn't have to take a back seat to Manzano at all and he was much more consistent, despite getting injured at a key time in prep for the season, but by the preference for titles over other results, Manzano gets U.S. #1 this time out. Centro looks like the best U.S. miler on the circuit in many years, with the obvious exception of Lagat. Webb had his moments, particularly 2007, but did not win or place highly in many Euro races. Webb could have dominated the mile since 2007, but it was not to be. Centro will be a top contender throughout the decade.

Ok tough guy. I'm in Tucson fairly frequently. Where can I find you?
What's the point of this?
Leo brings home a silver/gold medal, until Centro does this it doesn't really matter what we all think. Centro has a good opportunity to be the best in the US in the future, lots of potential and I wish him well. But for this year, it's Leo.
5th Ave Mile is a fun street race but it means nothing...

Exactly- Manzano got Olympic Silver.
Oh wait, let's see what Centro does at Mt. Sacs next year. If he loses, but runs smooth, then that'll be better than Manzano's OG Silver.

No response? We can meet in a neutral place off the 10. Your obviously to chicken shit to meet any place you frequent. You talk a big game on the net let's see you back it up. Or we can meet at the park outside of the air force base... I will gladly give you the opportunity to "beat the hell" out of me.
No?
Probably not. A true coward threatens people from the security of his computer. You spineless fckn turd.
I think if you ranked US milers in 2012, Manzano would be #1 with Centro #2.
The key races being indoor USATF, Olympic Trials and Olympics.
When the world rankings come out, I think you will see Centro ranked above Manzano.
The US Championships won't be weighted as heavy when doing international rankings but it is still a big head-to-head win.
Centro having run more than 2 seconds faster and placing high in all of the post-Olympic races will serve him well in international ranking.
Centro placed 3rd in Lausanne where Manzano placed 10th.
Centro placed 4th in Brussells where Manzano placed 11th.
Actually, the world rankings will be very difficult to compile.
Kiprop has the fastest time.
Makhloufi won the Olympics.
But I think Kiplagat had the best season overall.
Chepseba's name appears 7 times this year on the world list with two races under 3:30. He won two races but also lost three times to Centro.
My rankings would be:
1) Kiplagat
2) Makhloufi
3) Kiprop
4) M Gebremedhin
5) Centro
6) Chepseba
7) Manzano
8) Iguider
