this stupid schedule carried on for another three weeks, the mileage there hitting 181, 186 and 173. i felt tired all the time, caused obviously by the training but also because I worked 6 days a week in a slate mine. I got ill in the 4th week so the mileage was "only" 101, week 5 i developed bronchitis meaning only 58, week 6 51, week 7 back up to 137. week 8 i got the flu but still had to go to work, i ran just 9 miles this week, then only 22 in week 9. the final two weeks were 43 and 76. i had a disaster in the marathon, setting off at 2.11 pace, ended up running 2.23.39. needless to say I went back to being coached by my dad after this, and got a new job as a gardener, 5 days a week. ran a decent track season, running 3.49.1 1500m (this was always my best event, should have stuck to it), 8.07.8 3k, 13.53.1 5k and a 29.33.8 10k. I can honestly say this marathon training cycle screwed up m ability to run past 20 minutes without immense fatigue. to this day I regret doing it.
