Sparks will fly
I predict tough, hard-fought regional race that will garner 5 NCAA bids that all perform quite well, yet the NE Region will demand they are better in a massive circle jerk even as they under perform at Nationals.
Little Pineapple will fly.
Either Wheaton and WashU are overrated or Chicago is underrated. They crushed wheaton at aurora (wheaton was missing a waterman and phillips though). There was also an unattached guy (mcdaniel) that ran both at aurora and washu's home meet. He finished ahead of washu's #2 but way behind chicago's 4, who obviously wasn't even going that hard--finished practically holding hands with 2 teammates, no one else within 10+ seconds on either side.

If these trends continue...
Couldn't even make it three posts without mentioning the NE? COME ON SON!

In case you haven't followed previous trends, Wheaton always starts slow. They ran aurora as a tempo race where as Chicago essentially went all-out. It is definitely true that Chicago is underrated, though, especially in the regional rankings.
I think the real question at hand is will this be the first year that WIAC schools are squeezed out of the top 5 at regionals??
i believe that no matter what happens at regionals, we'll all be in agreement that the midwest region should be allocated more spots into NCAA's. There are definitely a lot of contenders this year in the region, the question is who will emerge at Nationals (and better yet, who will get the chance to do so). I don't think we've seen the best yet from WashU or Wheaton, but North Central is looking pretty damn good. I'll bet the regional race will be very tight. But exciting as well.
WashU never does anything meaningful until Oshkosh. They've had teams look mediocre in October and wind up top 10, so I wouldn't try to reason things out from the first meet (which wasn't even an 8k). Who knows if they have a fast 5th ready to step up, though. Same thing with most teams.
DIII doesn't get the respect it deserves.
