Why do so many people run a 1 min + positive split on this course? Is it that much tougher second half or do people just go out too fast there?
The 10K split was off a bit. I'd say 20s or so at the front end.

Why in the world would folks spend time thinking about Chad Hall? He was a mediocre college runner. He will never make it as a pro runner. I hope that he is taking strong steps toward beginning a real career outside of running.
He is Ryan Hall's brother? OK, so?

It is a 20km race, why the mile references?Do they really give mile splits?

The second half is pretty tough. Most years along the water there is a stiff head wind at mile 7. Then around Mile 10/11, there is a steady climb. There is a really beneficial decline afterward though and long flat finish.
A full minute difference is a bit much, as you can easily pace it better. But 1min isnt too bad. Anything more that 90sec would mean too fast a start.
Until you know what you are talking about....shut your pie hole! Your attempt at being funny failed.

Yes, the race is marked in miles (5ks as well). The map and elevation chart is in miles. Plus, I live in America....we use miles.

The fact he's training with Ryan, whose career has worsened since self-coaching (don't even argue) leaves me pessimistic.
I saw Ryan at this race in 2006 when he won. His form was unbelievable. He looked like the greatest white runner ever.
Haven't seen Chad race, but his college career wasn't anything compared to Ryan's, who was a Ritz kick away from NC XC title and got one in the 5k.
When is Chad going to race?
Neither of these Halls seem coachable and that is a bigger problem than lacking mile speed.

Key words
Ive been on here hating on Chad Hall since he transfered to UCR. No one can run well with that crazy nut of a coach. You want to know where they get it from? I cant speak from more recent teams under Irv Ray at UCR but he runs his team like a cult. He only stacks one year and hopes that they are good when they are all seniors. The Halls probably think their altitude tents aren't working. Spoiled Brats.
Just a point is that Hall ran his most impressive marathon of his career after self coaching his 2011 build up....

just a point is that the gale force hurricane at his back means it's not that impressive.
I think his pr in London was more impressive...

Agreed. There is really no question that Hall's London 2:06 was the most impressive marathon that he has run. His gale force winds race was probably not even his second best.

Right....He lost by 1 minute 57 seconds to a guy who later ended up running 2:05:06 on NY course(equivalent to mid-2:03s effort). His Boston performance is probably equivalent to a 2:05:45 or so, about 30 seconds better than his London run.

Is Chad doing any other races soon?

I heard Chad runs for some group called heavens gate or something. He really likes nikes now for some reason too.
