So if Desi had dropped earlier, would Natosha Rogers have gone to the games in the 10K seeing as Hastings would not have run the 10K trials.
Rogers does not have an A standard.
Huge F up by her coaches. They are responsible for keeping her healthy.
Her coaches have done a phenomenal job keeping her healthy, not a huge f.u. This is the first time in a very long while Desi has struggled with injury - compared to many other top athletes. The timing of the injury is what sucks.
Arthur Lydiard used to say that coaching women was a bigger challenge than men, because men complain a lot, so you always know right away when they're injured. Women don't complain near as much, so a lot of times you don't catch the injury until it's too late.

I agree with this, having coached women. Especially highly motivated ones like Desi. As a coach you have to watch them like a hawk and really get to know them ( ie how they move and look during training) because they will not complain to you.
I tore a hip flexor and was never the same after. Hip flexors injuries are very difficult to rehab and it really takes time for them to heal, you can't rush the healing time or hope it will go away. The first priority for any coach should be to keep their athlete's healthy, if you don't you can't work with them.
Everybody who has been injured always hopes for a miracle that will happen. Sydney Maree got a lot of flack for not giving up his spot to Chuck Aragon in 1984.
In a marathon if you have lost a lot of training due to injury it makes no sense to go into it. I don't know what the window to declare is and how long she has been injured but if she was limited training wise the last month or more she should have gave up her spot.
Had she opted to drop out (which would have been a throw away of $$), Alissa was approached as next in line with Grandt hurt.
They can go to the alternate at the drop of a hat. The Baby Faced Destroyer is only entered in the 10,000. However, depending on how things go there she can run the 5000 as she is the alternate.
There may be some minimum time but it is less than 48 hours before the event (see the men's 110 hurdles).
Don't be so sure they can go to the alternate at the drop of a hat. They could only submit one name as an alternate, and although USATF never revealed who it was, it sounds likely that it was Grandt. If Grandt's hurt, they're not going to McKaig. They're not going to anybody.
Must of doped inside the clear, Fall Marathon Performance of the century is coming up when Paula and Desi set a new 1 and 2 marathon performances.
No alternate for USA marathon entered. The official entry list has Dibaba listed as alternate for Ethiopia in the 5000m, none listed for USA women's marathon. Yes they can go to an entered and listed alternate such as Dibaba at the drop of a hat, but not for Desi's replacement, check out the official Olympic games guidelines, it's quite a process. USATF may not have an alternate, unless Hastings doubles.

The women's 10,000 is Friday the 3rd, the Marathon is less than 48 hours later, on Sunday the 5th.

@des_davila is my roomie in the village and plans to be at the start line for the 26.2! I will be cheering her on!
Plans to be at the start?

I think that's looking too far into a situation that didn't happen.
That's the second tweet I've seen mentioning the start. Does anyone doubt Desi can make it to the starting line? It would seem the finish is what's up in the air at this point.

Sorry for the misunderstanding earlier. Desi was frustrated with the fact that she is a long way from 100% both fitness wise and health. She had decided that it was probably best to pull out of the Marathon. After discussing her options with the Olympic coaches and medical staff, they convinced her that she deserves the entire experience and that means giving herself every chance to make it to the starting line.
That's a trifecta! Self, coaches, and roommate each only mention the start."Sorry for the misunderstanding earlier. There is something fishy about this whole story. Hansons have never put something out in the Press and then retracted it a couple hours later. Either Davila has no intention in running or she is in monster shape and they are playing all of us. I can't wait to see.
There's nothing more to this than that she's going through vicissitudes in her attempt to get over this injury. I hope she makes it. Step ups/downs usually help me get over a mild version of this injury very quickly, twice in the past two weeks and I just need some follow up to get over it longer term. By the way, from the picture on that twitter feed, that was the first close up I've seen (not having a tv) of the American Ralph Lauren outfits for the Opening Ceremonies. Brutal! That's just humiliating.
