can't wait until rupp runs sub 12:50 and makes all his haters eat sh*t.
I'd say rupp can go as low as 12:48 about right now.

It never ends, rupp rock, the haters suc c@(@$ and then they come here to doubt again. How insecure do u have to be to encourage a no name from another country to beat your top runner, because he can stomp your worthless bum into a pulp?
This is the end game for the desperate haters, the y can see it all closing down. The death throws are here.
Rupp beat those guys at Pre cause they had not peaked for the games yet. Rupp peaked and hopefully not to soon. All of you act like u never ran track.

U act like u never saw rupps record of peaking.
What? Anyway I hope Galen does explode on these guys. I'll be just as stressed as you with 1600 to go...believe me.
Rupp earns about 300k plus a year with his contract with Nike. Most youngsters from Ethipia grew in poverty with no hope, no opportunities to have a better life. It happens that some get that chance but they have to prove themselves, they have to beat the greatest, evenmore they have to beat the watch. Imagine you are a young kid and you grow people showing you hotels, cinemas, huge buildings that Haile, Bekele, Tulu, amongst others built.
All of sudden, you realize you have speed, you can run, then you start training, you get good, you start making some money and one day, the federation tells you if you want to go to the olympics you will have to beat Bekele in Paris, then you know you can be one of the greatest, you know there are a ton of youngsters who wish they were in your shoes, what would you do? How would you prepare yourself mentally? What state of mind would you have to know you can change not only your life, but your whole village, your siblings would eat properly, you would have electricity, tv, cars, computers, those little things that probably Rupp takes for granted?!
Just to give you an idea, the same level Rupp is at in Africa, you get a contract of about 50-60k a year without the treatments Rupp has, which is about 1,000,000birr. The prime minister earns about 7000birr a month, so a good athlete is worth more than 10times what the PM makes, so do you still think they mess around in their trainings? Some people are ready to die for top athletes one month salary!!!
Kwanga I did not mean to be disrespectful in anyway. Believe it or not I got to speak with Rupp and Mo, with Salazar standing right there. I finally said "Good Luck you guys." Galen said something like this " Luck, we are running against the greatest driven passion known to man..survival." He said "These runners are running to live, the survival of their children and homes, luck is not going to help." Galen seemed to have so much respect for the men he will run against. I apologize if I seemed offensive. At least Rupp, himself, has much admiration for the men on the other side of the world.
Believe it, he's the boss now:

He's got some swagger now.
Rupp could win the gold medal, or sub 12:40 or even break the world record and some buffoons on this board would find a way to criticize him in some way. He will never be good enough even if he were to reach the top. Too many people on this board are pathetic trolls.
Galen Rupp ran good because of home advantage, this is olympics, no home advantage, this is not jackpot series, a world record for you is a dream. Rupp is good is don't deny, but he has to be more than good to beat lagat, mo, Gebremeskel, Gebrehewit, and one kenyan. i bet he will be five placed. I hope you dont cry if he doesnt medal coz he wont.

No. As has been pointed out, Rupp will place 7 in the 5000, 6 in the 10000.
Well, The Prefontaine race had pace setters so in fact it was kind of to set records. At least American records. In any case, you are right that Salazar is the one who knows. That is exactly where I'm basing his 12:50 on. Because Alberto said so. He even said that wind conditions at Pre made a 12:58 equal 12:50.

you cant base what he could run at his absolute fastest on what he did in that race. he was running to win not to break a record. wait until he gets into a faster race to see what he can actually do. based on his extraordinary level of talent and his years of hard work with some of the greatest coaches and training partners in the world, i wouldnt be surprised if he could run 12:50, but we won't know until he's in a race to do that. its really amazing how critical people with no knowledge about him are being of rupp for no reason. he knows what hes doing and what he's capable of. you (not anyone specifically, just general d-bags on this site) dont, otherwise youd be his coach
nice description of the motivating factors of unestablished Ethiopian runners.
How much money did they give to Rojo? I guess he was the runt. Wejo was sure he deserved attention.
Is it possible that twins don’t always get the individual attention that they need which results in certain narcissistic personality disorders?
Symptoms of this disorder include, but are not limited to:
•Reacts to criticism with anger, shame, or humiliation
•May take advantage of others to reach their own goals
•Tends to exaggerate their own importance, achievements, and talents
•Imagines unrealistic fantasies of success, beauty, power, intelligence, or romance
•Requires constant attention and positive reinforcement from others
•Easily becomes jealous
•Lacks empathy and disregards the feelings of others
•Obsessed with oneself
•Mainly pursues selfish goals
•When you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious. You often monopolize conversations. You may belittle or look down on people you perceive as inferior. You may have a sense of entitlement.
•But underneath all this behavior often lies a fragile self-esteem. You have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have a sense of secret shame and humiliation. And in order to make yourself feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and efforts to belittle the other person to make yourself appear better

Rupp has been training with Farah. The key thing is, he's not afraid of the African runners. This doesn't mean that he doesn't respect them. He clearly does--and has to. But I see no evidence that he's suffering from any sort of mental hold-back. Beating Lagat at Pre, the way he did, says loads about just how ready he is.
At this point, nothing would surprise me--including (you heard it here first) Rupp winning gold in one of the two finals that I strongly believe he'll make.
He has arrived at this point in the face of long and merciless mockery about every element of who he is, how he looks, what advantages he's supposedly had. How many threads on this forum have savaged him for his (supposed) s-xuality, idiotic grins, altitude tents, god knows what.
He's soldiered on. He's met or exceeded almost every expectation. Unlike Webb, he doesn't seem to have played any head games with himself. At this point, he's not only our best shot for a medal, but he's postioned himself to be taken seriously by his East African competitors without having run such fast times that he's made himself a marked man.
The truth is, nobody really knows WHAT Rupp's upside is. And that is just terrific, going into the Olympics.
Be prepared to be stunned, is all I can say. Be prepared for a blacked-out LR homepage. I'm really looking forward to this.
I should have said "Beating Lagat at the Trials," of course. At Hayward field. Not at Pre.
JUST WAS WATCHING THING ON MUNICH 1972. I HOPE TO GOD LONDON IS PLANNING FOR THIS TYPE OF THING. THE WORLD TODAY...WHO THE HECK KNOWS.

What makes so many people "haters" as you say is because of people like you. Just please stop it! He may be able to break 12:50 but just because some guys he has beaten have done it doesn't mean he can definitely do it. Just let him run and if he breaks 12:50 we can all hail him. Until then just stop all the hyperbole!!!!
Wow... all this back and forth was hilarious for about 3 posts.
Let's look at the facts/things that are probably true:
1) Rupp probably has not peaked yet
2) Rupp has run 12:58
3) Assuming 1 and 2 are true, Rupp could potentially run 12:50 now, or maybe a bit below
3) The Olympic final probably won't be <13
4) Rupp has some good last 800 speed now
5) Rupp has a chance at a medal
And to oldtimefan, that's disappointing and a little immature you'd feel entitled to say that people are hating on Rupp because of what people are posting on letsrun.... seriously, come on. Call it an immature post, but don't validate hating on Rupp because of a poster trying to get a rise out of people on this mb.
